Sekerob, Thanks for all the work you do. Are the points being granted the median of the three machines or the average? There's a difference between median and average, right? cio_redulla ![]() |

What language?
----------------------------------------Per good old Merriam-Webster median: 2 a : a value in an ordered set of values below and above which there is an equal number of values or which is the arithmetic mean of the two middle values if there is no one middle number synonym see AVERAGE

Short answer: it used to be the median (with some additional statistical manipulation). Now it's the mean, with a lot of very complicated additional statistical manipulation.

Replying to my own test. I got significantly more points doing Boinc vs. UD. So, Boinc it is!

Short answer: it used to be the median (with some additional statistical manipulation). Now it's the mean, with a lot of very complicated additional statistical manipulation. So mean it is, ![]() Of course, Merriam-Webster is correct, hehehe, but my question spefically refers to the results returned by three machines in WCG. faah1322_ d024n653_ x2BPW_ 00-- Valid 02/08/2007 23:04:36 02/09/2007 23:16:25 6.31 66.5 / 71.4 faah1322_ d024n653_ x2BPW_ 00-- Valid 02/08/2007 23:03:54 02/09/2007 08:48:20 3.34 69.9 / 71.4 faah1322_ d024n653_ x2BPW_ 00-- Valid 02/08/2007 23:00:50 02/09/2007 19:15:31 10.67 77.9 / 71.4 The median in this case would be 69.9 but the mean is 71.4. Since there is a middle value in this set of data (69.9), it would be incorrect to say that the granted credit is the median of the claimed credits since the granted credit is 71.4, which is the mean of the set. cio_redulla ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by cio_redulla at Feb 10, 2007 1:10:25 AM] |
