Re: Gold Silver Bronze

You may have seen the e-mail ... a rush job on a new pandemic project.
I told them it seemed confusing, but it looks like another BOINC project.
The two pending climate change projects haven't launched.

Re: Gold Silver Bronze

Hello, I hope you keeping well.

I'm preparing to fire up a decent numbers of semi retired cores for the covid-19 project. I'm expecting it to attract a lot of crunchers for obvious reasons, so I'm thinking it will run out of units faster than people will anticipate.

With that in mind I intend to hit it hard so I can at least get a bronze before they run out of units.

Re: Gold Silver Bronze

Ok, prep work done, testing just now on ARP's and then I'm good to go when the COVID project is launched.

Re: Gold Silver Bronze

Ok, prep work done, testing just now on ARP's and then I'm good to go when the COVID project is launched.

SCC has 9y 110d so have cut back on those until 10 years since they are close.
HSTB has 5y 305d and ARP has 3y 261d. I am trying to get those up to 10 years.
HSTB seems to be rare and I have none at the moment. I saw a few yesterday.
ARP is sometimes erratic, so SCC will fill in when there are less ARP and HSTB. Those are long running. SCC is better for the result count.

MIP is 12y 168d, FA@H2 is 10y 161d and MCM is 14y 87d. If everything else gets to 10, I can resume these but hopefully COVID will get going one of these days and it can take over from SCC.

The other two climate projects haven't launched either.

Re: Gold Silver Bronze

I'm currently trying to get ARP and MIP to 20 yrs. Both are longer term goals since the machines will mostly be shut down when summer comes.

I'm keen to see COVID launched soon since either a) The worst of the pandemic will have passed or a vaccine will be found and the project will no longer be news, or b) It will be mid - July and my machines will be turned off.

On a side note El Reg ran an article on F@H and COVID and even heavily mentioned the "other" Register team whilst giving our team a passing mention.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/04/14/reg_...oldingathome_coronavirus/

Perhaps we could tip them off about the WCG project when it launches here so we get the new team members rather than another splinter team forming?

A few years ago I ran through the other BOINC projects and made a Vulture Central team in all of them with a different number. Since then I have just stayed here. The Reg hasn't said much at all about ours. true. Maybe the Covid project will help if it ever gets going.

Oh, that's right. You shut down for the summer due to cooling issues. I just keep going.

There is a special team link to us that could be sent to The Reg when Covid gets going.

Blimey @retsof, I didn't realise you'd ramped up to as many as 46 threads. Looks like you're averaging almost double my runtime per day (you had 32 days yesterday, I average about 17 days from 18 threads). I guess you'll overtake me in the Vulture Central rankings soon. However I don't think anyone's in danger of catching @widdershins - he had 92 cpu days yesterday. I guess if he's got that many threads running in a small space, it's no surprise that he needs to shutdown for the summer.

@widdershins, I was surprised when I read that you shut your machines down for summer as Scotland is generally a couple of degrees colder than where I am (London), but I suppose if you've got that many cores all running together, heat is probably an issue.

Re: Gold Silver Bronze

Yea, I don't like it too hot. I'm the one who opens the windows in the office in January. biggrin

I only have the central heating on for about 20 mins first thing in the morning during the middle of winter, just to warm the towels before I get up. Apart from that, the heating is off and crunchers keep the temp up. I am choking BOINC down to around 70% overnight though to keep the fans whisper quiet. sleep Leccy bill is a bit higher, but Gas is nothing to speak of.

I should also confess that I don't actually have 92 cores running at present. That was just a good day when loads of PV validated together. I think it's only about 72(ish) at present, but since they are quieted down overnight it's only equivalent to 50 odds going flat out.
