Running both Boinc and UD agent on dual core CPU.

Hello
I would like to participate in "cure muscular dystrophy" project. So I have Boinc installed and running on one CPU and UD agent running at the same time on the second CPU. The throttle of both programs are at 100%
Well I see any performance degradation? should I have any concerns?
I have Intel C2d E 6700

thank you

Re: Running both Boinc and UD agent on dual core CPU.

Yes u can but it requires some fickle stuff.

1. You need to set BOINC to only use 1 CPU (Device profile setting on website)
2. Assign the affinity of one or other agent to core 0 or core 1.

Note that HCMD and HPF2 both on WCG(UD) agent are very submissive to other low priority processes like BOINC... UD agent sciences run at an even lower priority, so ensure that both don't end up on the same core.

You should not see any appreciable performance deterioration if you went about it correctly. It's an unsupported arrangement for tweakers!!!

Thank you for the reply.
I already have BOINC set to use only one CPU from the device portfolio settings.
But I did not set the affinity for each program because it's kind of a hassle to do it manually each time at startup!.

I remember reading that you can assign the affinity automatically by adding a number [0 or 1] at the end of the program's command line, but I don't remember the exact way to do it!
Can you please show me how?
I am using windows XP
Thank you

Re: Running both Boinc and UD agent on dual core CPU.

Here's a cached link to a little program called Set- to achieve this upon launching.

And another one WinLauncher, that does same

And a discussion thread in Tweakguides:
