I had a similar problem and found that shutting down Windows Defender got it to work. Thanks for that tip YID. WCG(UD) agent or one of the other simultaneous processes or the transient DLL problem, are ideally set up with an exemption rule in security software or reported at the vendor (MS this case). Hope they teach that animal to leave the agents (also BOINC) alone. Have added it to a Vista related knowledge post in the Start Here forum, where all Vista specific threads and "How To's" are being collected, so far.
