Jus a thought. Does everyone run boinc on a separate partition. I believe that's one way around microsofts code errors... at least Vista might respond better!

Vista still blocks BOINC manager as an 'unknown program' at boot. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well, you want to run an app screwing around with one of the services, that an admin set to run. Its understandable paranoia I guess. It's stated on the boinc download page too, that they will solve it in the FUTURE! I'm glad you succeeded though! How soon do you recognize the presence of a new CPU in your daily stats? ![]() When you are using BOINC, as soon as the results are validated. Sometimes my results take 5-7 days for that. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thnx, I already see some results from the new PC.
Cargod: U will not be able to solve that problem! It is Vista being overprotetctive for some reason. BOINC developers will solve it for U in the future... Why does it bother you so much anyway? BOINC is running even if you don't run the BOINC Manager app. It does the same job with or without the Manager... |

I know how much better the multi cores work in comparison to the single cores especially celerons. But currently I have just spent soooo much on repairing my house, that I can't afford any new computer components. I'm hoping that I can use pieces and parts from 3 of them to make one, while the other two work just fine. I haven't really seen a electric bill yet since I moved back in, so I'm just hoping that it isn't that bad and I will be able to put another one or two systems online. I actually found that one of my boards with a socket 775 Celeron 3Ghz would support a Pentium D dual core (not core duo) 2.8Ghz. For the $79 I spent on the CPU (retail box with heatsink/fan), performance has increased dramatically. At the time I bought the machine, that CPU was another $400 over the Celeron. How time changes things...LOL ![]() ![]() ![]() |

BOINC is running even if you don't run the BOINC Manager app. It does the same job with or without the Manager... Vista bothers me because it is a step backwards instead of forwards, in ueability. Every previous version of Windows I could actually see/feel the improvement. With Vista, from the very first BETA build I installed, I was saying...what are they doing??? Rearranging things doesn't stop dedicated hackers, they figure things out in short order. It is the regular user that has to deal with all the unnecessary 'security' roadblocks they have put into Vista. If you turn off UAC, it breaks all kinds of other things...like my AV and AntiSpyware auto updates. That is NOT an improvement IMHO. I turned off the browser protected mode and it made it run faster. I turn off all the eye candy and use classic menus. Maybe I am different than an 'average user' but with my file/folder arrangement; I have no use for the search function or indexing. If I want a file from even 3-4 years ago, I know where I put it. If I tell a program to run, it should run; with no interference from the OS. I don't need (or want) a Nanny looking over my shoulder while I am computing. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I agree fully....
It's just that, you cannot do anything against it... |
