Chux and Storm!!! Just in time, we made the

biggrin 50 Year Mark!!! biggrin

and are now rated Top 100 all-time results at WCG!

GO TEAM!!!!!

WTG Everyone!

I ordered a Celery 3.33Ghz/2GB (refurbished) to replace the P4-1.5 that is having issues. It looks like the P4D-925 (3.0Ghz dual core) will snap in as a replacement.
For $199 plus $59 for the dual core CPU (and $25 shipping), not a bad deal IMHO.
I priced the parts and the software to build a similiar system and it was right at $500.

Thanks! I just wish the cores were faster...LOL

I did notice that my climb up the ladder has slower considerably.
I was climbing by leaps & bounds until I made the top 1000, now I am lucky to climb 1-2 spots a day.

biggrin Re: Cunning plan in the making!

You guys are always top on my book, no matter how much you crunch biggrin

Its the team's 6 calander month mark!! I'll have the stats up when todays results are posted tomorrow.

The cunning plan is to compress this thread into a few well chosen posts. The question is "what do you want to keep?". The post here wont be wiped out, just will fall off page 1. The new thread will have a link to here in the opening post. Just instead of 33 pages of weeding, it will be a quick read like a 2 page resume or press release.

Look down the past 33 pages and let me know. biggrin

WTG!!
I know I'm still a 'johnny come lately', but I like to see fast progress!
I doubt I'll ever be #1 as there are always those with more money and resources.
If my boss would ever let us spend the $$ to upgrade 100 or so machines to core duos...LOL
For what we use them for, there is no way to justify that.
I actually have several P3-450/128MB that I have replaced W98 or ME with Linux on that do everything we need done.

I did crack the top 500 in the last of the 3 categories (results returned)today. Now if I can stay there...

It would help with the thread being tooo long. You wanted to fix this yourself by using a fast track. I couldn’t install it, as the first post cant be changed at this point.

By starting a new team thread, we can fix that and compact the view that we want the world to see our team as. Right now, its strung out and hard to read through. If it were to read more like an ad than a diary, it would do much for recruitment.

What happens if you post at the end of a long thread is only a few people read it after a few days. If we compact this thread, then all the new people improved view ability of your main posts on page one.

But we don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to.

Oh and please dear cargod, you and roger make a pretty pair. All red and green, very xmas'y. But more so, you balance out the hours for his results. If you had a smaller group of faster machines, this would not be the case. Making you our Cpugod, which is a godsent. biggrin

The method of expansion for most businesses to change out machines, comes when the perspective cost of failure exceeds the minimum upgrade price. Right now, all machines with PC-100 style ram is coming close to this level, as the upgrade for cpu/ram/mobo price is dropping so fast and older ram starts to rise. The psu and cpu fan are a write-off at 4 yrs anyway. Kind of like tires and batteries. So when it comes time to open the case to fix them, trade in the cpu/mobo as well.

This goes further, as the mobo will have upward compatability (like sata) and can be made to run cheaper. Making the added improvement in performance a welcome bonus. This doesn’t mean dropping out machines to pay for the upgrades. Funds would come mostly from fleet cost of ownership figure dropping along with the capital equiptment writeoff.

But then again, you sell fleets of cars. So I'm preaching to the choir. But if you could drop in an engine into a car that improved its gas mileage and increase performance for less than the price of a new standard engine, wouldn’t that be a nifty deal! And with the volume pricing added with a local college student that could use the bucks, you could kill 4 or 5 birds with one stone.

See one way to look at this is to step back and in vision where you will need to be in a few years. I bet if you work the spreadsheet and upgrade elegantly, it will be cheaper in the long run to move sooner than later. My reason for sooner was I have to run the flat on 15amps. Your reason for sooner may be to prevent the panic need of completely swapping out systems, so the project doesn’t interfere with normal business operations. And then to look back and say "If I had switched back then, I would have paid for the upgrades by now in the savings."

It all has to do with how much you pay in power vs the cost of the minimum upgrade. When looking, a power conservative upgrade would start at 100usd. With volumn discounts, this may be close to your total per unit price for the overall project.

How much do you spend per KWh?

biggrin Re: Cunning plan in the making!

I added a duo and am racing it against all the non duo's here. Its close but there are 5 other machines ranging from 500mhz to 3000+xp.

The race is for results now. The KWh race was won the moment i powered it on. biggrin
