"The Closer" premiers Monday at 9PM Eastern time on TNT
----------------------------------------Finished Smokin Aces. The violence was very graphic at times but not overwhelming. It continued to be pretty funny. There were some surprises but the obligatory plot twist felt contrived. Seeds for it had been planted throughout the movie, so it wasn't forced - just had a soap-operatic feel about it. Started watching "Spirited Away" but since this is technically anime will post impressions in Anime Thread ![]() ![]() |

going to, if it comes in 24 months time.... last episode of 'i Sporani' (pronounced as E Soprani over here).... Tony's Italian is hilarious, so watch it in original English with Italian subtitling.

Started watching "Spirited Away" but since this is technically anime will post impressions in Anime Thread Spirited Away is awesome...as is Howl's Moving Castle - my two favorite Miyazaki films. I just watched "You and Me and Everyone We Know"...which was great (love indie movies). Tonight I think I'll watch "The Corporation". |

Dr Who of course, and this Saturdays episode sees the return of Capt Jack Harkness, last seen vanishing from Torchwood. I've been waiting for Dr. Who to come back on SciFi in the US, but apparently the UK is well into Season 3 - damn. I have to find what usenet groups this is getting posted to and start downloading. Will Torchwood be far behind? TV.com doesn't give a date for the start of the second season. Also waiting for Eureka on SciFi - they've been promoting it heavily - premier is July 10th. Saw Spiderman 3 a couple days ago. I liked the story. The black suited spiderman was very satisfying but so was the resolution. Snuck into it after seeing Surf's Up. I love that aspect of the multiplex cinemas. If you go during the day you can meander in or out of any movie that's playing. You could probably get away with spending the entire day there. ![]() ![]() |

Turns out there is a usenet group just for Dr. who. Found everything except the Runaway Bride special. Looks like hi-def avi files too - I only get scifi channel in regular NTSC resolution.
----------------------------------------Just saw the first Lexx episode "I worship his shadow". After watching the entire series a few years ago, this was very interesting and explained a lot the history behind some of the plot elements. The major items are covered later in the series in flashbacks but it was nice to have the story told in chronological fashion. Now if I can just get to the dvd extras . . . Also watching second season of Rome and still in love with the story. I'm at the split between Octavian and Marc Anthony (the final one) and Vorenus is still managing to pick the wrong side to be on. ![]() ![]() |

Found Runaway Bride episode - excellent. Also found something called Dr. Who confidential which gives background and interviews for each season 3 episode.
----------------------------------------Also started watching episodes of "The Bill" which I've had for several months but haven't gotten around to. Earliest episodes I could get were from last fall but the episode number was 454!!! Guess the show has been around for a while. Can anyone tell me the difference between ITV and BBC? Taggart I think was on ITV. Is that the Scottish broadcasting station or a competitor? The Bill apparently is on ITV3. ![]() ![]() |

I'm almost caught up on Dr. Who. Just finished "Blink" - probably one of the best episodes I've seen so far. Of course the science was a little shaky, but you can't get hung up on that - the concept was still excellent.
----------------------------------------Not sure how I feel about "The bill". The characters have depth and there's always a lot going on so it's never dull. It also seems realistic but then I don't really have much to compare it to. At one point, I did work as a records clerk at my local police station, but it's a pretty quiet community so that probably doesn't count for much. It gives you a much different view of things than other UK police dramas such as "A touch of Frost", "Taggart", "Inspector Morse", etc. But I think it's starting to grow on me. ![]() ![]() |

My favorite British series are Midsommer Murders and Poirot. My wife and I have seen every episode and enjoy them very much.
I've bought the DVD's for The West Wing, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, and NYPD Blue. Just got the first season of WKRP in Cincinnati and laughed all through it. Great stuff and hardly dated at all, even after 30 years. Also got the first season of Murphy Brown but was just reminded of how that character was more annoying than funny. Won't be getting any of the additional seasons of that one. |
