Re: What are you watching? The movie/tv thread.

I've been watching Murphy's Law - up to 4th season. Some of the episodes in the first 2 seasons seemed unrealistic. Even so the stories were still engaging. Season 3 is quite good and is more in the nature of a mini-series since the episodes build on each other. The show is very suspenseful. That makes it a little difficult for me to watch at times but I think it's something most people would appreciate.

The last thing I saw of any interest was a repeat of "Titanic". It is even more interesting the second or third time. There are at least two camera shots of the forefunnel breaking under its own weight, one before the ship's back broke and one afterwards. The rest of the camera work is amazing.

Re: What are you watching? The movie/tv thread.

Started watching Life on Mars. As someone who actually remembers the 70's, it's a little scary. I didn't like that decade the first time around so I'm not wild about the refried version. I like the concept though. It reminds me of a US show called Do Over that lasted maybe 6 weeks. I like the characters and the story lines are interesting.

For LOM fans who were sad to see the series end, look out for Ashes to Ashes. It picks up the story in 1981 with a female main character. It's being filmed this summer and think it's scheduled for broadcast in 2008.

Re: What are you watching? The movie/tv thread.

Just saw Hot Fuzz - about a Met constable that is transferred to a country village controlled by murderous cabal obsessed with being Village of the Year. I haven't seen many British comedies so I don't have much to compare it to, but on it's face I thought it was pretty good. Its an interesting combination of comedy, murder/mystery and action/adventure genres. It also has one of the longest fight/chase scenes I think I've ever seen.

Just saw "Goya's Ghosts" and although many of the reviews/critics judged it negatively, I was totally immersed in the film. It's a story about the Spanish Inquisition - of human misery and survival and the braided fates of the characters as Spain suffered under Napoleonic rule.

Re: What are you watching? The movie/tv thread.

Just completed the first DVD of the First Season of Perry Mason. Everyone knows the formula - crime committed, innocent person accused, Mason gets the real perpetrator to confess on the stand. Predictable but great fun and nostalgia.

Re: What are you watching? The movie/tv thread.

Goya's ghosts looks good - I'll see if I can get an English version of it.

Animal Planet's wildly popular show "Meerkat Manor" is back for a 3rd season. If you haven't seen it, you have no idea what you're missing. Meerkats are about 12 inches tall, weigh about 2 pounds and are incredibly furry. They live in extended families of up to 40 individuals and there is more going on than in any human-conceived soap opera. Granted, the producers have anthropomorphized the little critters more that would be appropriate from a purely scientific point of view, but I don't think they're often too far off the mark. The season 2 recap was last Friday (US). There is another showing this friday at 8pm (eastern US daylight savings time = 12am UTC) and the first show of the new season at 8:30pm.

If you have the slightest interest in small, furry animals, you will LOVE this show.
