Ret,

I'm not the one who thinks this is thread has issues:

"Most pointless thread EVAR!" Didactylos

See, my point is that when the volume of traffic here was high, to prevent the new member here (mainly grid.org refugees) from being crouded out, to expand the forum by adding a lobby. Splitting slow speed chat away from high speed entertainment threads.

But now that many seemed to have "lost the love", It wont matter that many have now left. It was bad enough to have grid.org end so quickly, but now that this place seems to enjoy discrediting grid.org spirit?

Let me give you a bit of a clue: I am a team captain of a top 50 team in all-round average daily score, right out of the block. Why? Grid.org spirit!

Why do people want this dead?

Re: Bump thread

Ah Courine

Sorry I didn't realise I'm a bit thick

Yes you are right we do need more fora I too have stopped posting in here as much cos is moves so fast. Me and Sek had a great Stats thread running but it's pretty pointless (no pun intended) as the churn in here is now so quick.

I used to be a Community Advisor but IBM have the very thickest of skins when it comes to listening to it's members (and Community Advisors that they are supposed to have the ear of IBM) so after giving it my best I felt I could make as much difference as a mere mortal (I'm a lot happier as a result)

We could use a Stats Forum would be my suggestion for all the PC PC Stuff

We could use a Science forum for all the latest research break throughs

We could use a How to promote World Community Grid and how are you doing at promoting the WCG Forum

Maybe a word games/jokes

then the rest could be chat

Then you could see the wood for the trees

On the Grid.org front I know it's hard but on the crunching side of things this is not UD.com and they really do have a handle on getting work for us to do and getting the results back to those that need them and getting their feedback in a timely manner. As I've said before I had 5 years of crunch time over at Grid and remember the down times and the extremely long running work units and I have probably crunched the same work unit many a time but rest assured this WILL NOT happen here - I can promise you that

Don't give up on us yet

If you keep on and on and on about something you never know IBM might eventually come out of the bunker and take notice

Don't loose sight of what is important while you are waiting (It could be a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time) the key thing is the research that it taking place into HIV, Muscular Dystrophy and other none specific medical research that we are all contributing to.

Only good will be the result

That is what counts

Maybe IBM should invite the key figures of the Grid to be Advisors here on the WCG That way it would demonstrate that the grid.orgers are truely welcomed into the fold

(Which for what it's worth coming from just me that Dave Autumns Chap somewhere in the UK you are hugs)

Don't give up

The best regards

Dave

Re: Bump thread

David, our forum profile supports a favorites section, but I don't know how to add entries to it. I use browser bookmarks to keep up with some threads, but it would be great if I could have a list of favorites which remembered the last post number I read.

As I'm still fairly new to forums, I'm hoping you might have some insight into this. I have "volunteered" myself to set up some forums at church, so I expect I'll be in a steep learning curve soon as to what does and doesn't work.

Just a thought, is it possible to put a sticky pseudo-thread at the top of every forum which contains recent posts for just that forum? I don't know if the forum software supports this or what the processor overhead would be to support it.

Thanks.

<----- a key figure of the Grid

I have been an advisor/moderator at BOTH places.

One way to be made an advisor is to give advice. The IBMers, or US, or somebody, will notice your effort.

In the meantime, BUMP.

Caring and Sharing was quickly established.

IBM didn't really want to rush to make this forum look like the old grid forum. We've got 3 projects coming up in about as many months, and 1 more early next year. They're concentrating this summer on their primary mission, which is ... crunching. Since 2 projects just finished up, we're already seeing complaints that only 2 are running. What do we want, more projects or slow speed chat? biggrin

This forum version is getting very old, and they probably don't want to change too much too fast. After a software upgrade, some changes might already come with it and some others might be easier to make. We don't know what we'll get or when.

Slow speed chat? Got'ta think a few days about what that really IS. "Chat" is SUPPOSED to be fast. Well, if there were no responses until then, then that's what it would be. Maybe it's something like snail mail. Maybe it's what I'm doing -- on dialup. I'm covering all threads in all places.

There are several slow speed entertainment threads already that allow only one messsage per day per user.

Not sure. I saw it all over the place on phpBB forums. This is MVNforum. This particular one was actually fairly small until grid.org pulled the plug. Since a lot of stuff over there went away (and shouldn't have) many wanted to see it appear here.
