Re: Gone but still here.

I am going to post to this thread because the title is close to what I want to say, and I did not want to start a new thread. Also, this thread has not had any activity for a while, so I don't think anyone would mind.

First, the good news. It has only been a month since I joined WCG, and I got my first badge this past week. I am working towards all the badges, but once I get them all, I will likely dedicate my computer to my favorite projects.

Now, the bad news. I noticed that I am ranked in the top 40% of all users. I had barely put in any effort, so that means most people who join will likely give up within a month.

Even more bad news. I have a fairly new PC (2006) and a fairly old Mac (2003). My PC crunches workunits 5 times faster than my Mac. I use my Mac 99% of the time and my PC 1% of the time, so my PC is virtually dedicated to BOINC. A single workunit will take over a day on my Mac. The estimates are usually somewhere between 40 and 50 hours, and the actual time seems to be close. I just bought more memory and cleaned up my hard drive, but my Mac has always seemed to drag along even without BOINC running. Therefore, I have decided to stop running BOINC on my Mac and free up some resources. That’s a 20% drop in crunching power from me. So, as the name of the thread implies, I am “gone but still here.” Also, it is my understanding that BOINC & WCG are not very PowerPC-friendly. I could not get a HCC workunit for my Mac, so my last WCG workunit that I am crunching right now is for DDDT (happy to do it) which I received because I ticked off that I would accept any other workunits if there are none available for my primary selection(s).

Re: Gone but still here.

Really, start a new thread. Digging up old, irrelevant threads is just confusing.
