Didactylos : yes that's what I'm saying.
----------------------------------------I'm running Boinc version 5.4.11 i686-pc-linux-gnu. I don't have any "run_if_user_active" tag inside the venue tags of my global_prefs.xml file, but I do have a global_prefs_override.xml file, which contains only one line : <global_preferences></global_preferences> [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 10, 2007 12:10:58 PM] |

Obscure: Not even in the first part, which is the 'default' venue (?), but does not have a venue indicator.
----------------------------------------If the client starts up, does it say which profile the client is attached to in the message log? If none given, it will use default. The global_override_prefs.xml does nothing per it's present content.

There is a "run_if_user_active"-tag in the default part, but the message log in the manager shows a line "General prefs: using separate prefs for home" (and home is the name of my profile).
----------------------------------------Are you sure the problem has to do with Boinc and not with WCG ? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 10, 2007 12:48:12 PM] |

Positively a parm used locally.
----------------------------------------Okay, lets get radical: Set "Network activity suspended" and Exit BOINC, edit the global_prefs.xml and remove the line. Restart BOINC and ensure the "run based on preferences" is selected. See what happens. Also go to the WCG website and set the default profile to 'No', Save and apply, in case somehow the default overrides, if the parm does not exists in the other 3 venues (could it be a bug?).

I'm going to offer a different course of action to Sekerob's suggestion.
First, delete the file global_prefs_override.xml. Second, upgrade BOINC to the current version: 5.8.16, available here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php |

Sorry, I think that my first post, mentionning the keyboard, was likely erroneous. Only the touchpad is concerned. At least now, after following Sekerob's suggestion, I can suspend activity by typing on the keyboard. But I cannot suspend activity by typing on the touchpad or clicking with it. And indeed, I happen to use my computer for quite a long time without needing the keyboard.
I should also mention another problem, concerning resuming activity, but I will first try to upgrade Boinc and I will tell you if it remains after that. |

If you set any screensaver, does the mousepad movement awake the display?
----------------------------------------Not familiar with Linux, but is there a place where one can define mouse action to be interpreted as user activity. Is BOINC installed as a service, single or multiuser? Looked in the BOINC FAQ's (link below) and on BOINC dev forum, but nothing is mentioned relating to mousepads.

Sorry for elapsed time. I'm trying again to solve the problem.
I installed Boinc version 5.8.16 (instead of the version currently distributed in Ubuntu repositories). It looks like there's no more resuming problem and no more checkbox bug. But the main problem is still there: touchpad movement doesn't suspend activity. In contrast, touchpad movement is interpreted as user activity by my screensaver. So the problem is not there. - Is BOINC installed as a service, single or multiuser? I'm the only user of this computer, so I suppose it's installed as single; I'm not sure I understand your question. |

hi,
----------------------------------------Installed as 'Service' means that BOINC (the core client) will load and run even before a user logs on. When you log in, you can still use the BOINC mgr GUI interface, but initially that interface is not loaded. The mouse thing you need to confirm if understood correctly: Movement wakes the screen/ends the screensaver, but the agent continues to process? cheers

I think Sekerob missed the bit where you mentioned Linux.
I don't know how the client detects activity in Linux, but it is possible that it won't be detected properly if BOINC is running in a different context. What account is the client running under? Anyway, BOINC 5.10 has just been released. |
