Seems they had suspicions for 5 days at the first location before notifying the authorities. That's 5 days for the disease to have been carried further and indeed the second instance has just been confirmed:
----------------------------------------http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6934334.stm It is thought contaminated water may have been incorrectly disposed of down a drain which subsequently overflowed during heavy rain and carried the contaminated water on to farmland.

bjbdbest haldav sekerob it is as easy for a worker to forget both halves of a double precaution as for a man to forget both belt and braces. It is thought contaminated water may have been incorrectly disposed of down a drain which subsequently overflowed during heavy rain and carried the contaminated water on to farmland. Maybe it was the C-Nile Virus hold on though - isn't that inactive? |

No, it's from "cow" - "The term derives from Edward Jenner's use of cowpox ("vacca" means cow in Latin), which, when administered to humans, provided them protection against smallpox" d, you must admit it is hard to tell cow pies from bull pies when you step in them. |

Outbreak source 'linked to lab' Worker decontaminates cattle equipment. There is a "strong probability" the foot-and-mouth outbreak began at a research site, inspectors have said. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6935418.stm

Looks like it walked right out of the lab
----------------------------------------http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2007/e07031.htm here's the rub. The lab is now producing vaccine for the yet infected herds we really do need that shaking head in disbelief smiley A second herd succumbed today the 1st was 3 miles away from this facilty todays is just 1 mile down the road [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Aug 7, 2007 9:21:22 PM] |

Tree roots cracked through the drainage system. The pipes need replacing.

Think the Brits have now their man-made F&M extension.... something so simple as tree roots penetrating a sewage pipe carrying contaminated water.... 3 farms in Surrey in this last week had an outbreak of the same strain so said the news down here as well.
----------------------------------------http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7000800.stm 'Disturbing news' The three latest confirmed cases were just a few miles away from the Pirbright research complex - blamed as the source for the foot-and-mouth outbreaks at two other farms last month.
