Ready to report?

I'm having some trouble here I think.

My BOINC agent has downloaded several projects to work on, and 2 of them are already finished. Those 2 have a status saying: Ready to report.

Isn't it supposed to report it automaticly, or do I have to do it myself?
In that case, how do I do it?

Re: Ready to report?

I don't normally pay much attention to what boinc is doing unless there's a problem. Lately, with the connection problems I've had, I've been watching the "tasks" section in "Advanced view" and have noticed the same thing. At first I thought it was because I had limited network access so as to force boinc to download more work units at a time. But when I switched to "always available" setting for network access, the finished wu's still sat in the task list. Eventually, they got uploaded - or at least disappeared from the task list. It will probably get around to uploading them. If they're still there tomorrow, then I would be concerned.

Re: Ready to report?

Here you can find a description of what it means and what the conditions are upon which the acknowledgment takes place:
Ready to Report

From Unofficial BOINC Wiki

General

This status indicator shows that a Result has finished and that all related data has been uploaded to the Data Server. This is the final status that will show in the BOINC Manager. After the Result has been reported it will be deleted from the local Host.

will be reported automatically at the following triggers:

1. New work is needed. Completed work will be reported at the same time.
2. The Deadline is less than 24 hours away.
3. The Result is less than the Work Buffer setting from it's Deadline (New for v5.4.xx)
4. The Result has been in the Ready to Report status for 24 hours. (New for v5.10.14)
5. The Result has been in the Ready to Report status longer than the Work Buffer setting. (Removed in v5.10.14 and later)
6. If "net_status.have_sporadic_connection" will report immediately. (Not sure, but maybe something for dialup-users?)

Note: There is a bug in the 4.4x Versions of the BOINC Client Software that causes Results to be reported immediately after the status changes to Ready to Report.

Re: Ready to report?

Well, it says that after the result has been reported it will be deleted from the local host. This has not happened here yet. So this can only mean that it hasn't been reported?

Also, when I press "update" in the "projects" tab, it says under status: "Communication deffered xx:xx:xx (with a countdowntimer)"

I'm lost...

Ready to Report
1. New work is needed. Completed work will be reported at the same time.
2. The Deadline is less than 24 hours away.
3. The Result has been in the Ready to Report status longer than the Work Buffer setting.
4. The Result is less than the Work Buffer setting from it's Deadline (New for v5.4.xx)

An updated (and re-sorted) Wiki-list is:

Re: Ready to report?

The reporting is phased so as to ensure nothing get's lost if ever a communication failure or other client / server interruption should take place

A. The Result file/files is/are send into a data-storage, the most important part, that can be witnessed in the Transfer tab of the BOINCmgr
B. The Report to the Scheduler (the "Ready To Report" part) to confirm that all is fine.

It's only the latter step that removes all information from the client. Only when that step has happened will the Result Status page be updated from 'In Progress' into one of the other 7 or 8 conditions described here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=6105#48791

If u use the search function right hand top or the advanced search function, centre top of forum screens, you will find more extensive discussion on the matter.

Re: Ready to report?

My own take on 'Ready to report' (I am NOT a BOINC expert). The BOINC scheduler is complicated. BOINC tries to return the result as soon as it is completed. But there is still some information to send back to a different scheduler module. Since the result has already been returned, this is not high-priority. The scheduling database will do some heavy duty DB operations when the report is returned, so BOINC delays, hoping to return reports about more work units at the same time, which would reduce the load on the database server. The important thing is to return the result. Usually, that has already been done when BOINC Manager starts to show 'Ready to report'.

Re: Ready to report?

Okay so basically that means that there is no problem?

It's supposed to stay at "Ready to report?"

When I pressed "Update" in the "Projects" tab, the "Ready to report"-tasks dissappeared. Is this supposed to happen?
Also, after I pressed update, it says: "Communication deferred xx:xx:xx" (countdown timer) in the "Status"-bar in the tab "Projects".
What's up with that?

Re: Ready to report?

Cookie, you had your answer already at the BOINC dev where you opened a thread with the same questions.

Actually I had no answer.
They only told me that the status meant everything was uploaded and OK. However, I'm still having the issue described in my post above yours.
This one:
