Graphics on Dengue

I have to turn boinc off as I cannot have it as a screen saver at work with the word "sex" in big letters everywhere. Seems a shame. Tone down the graphics or I will leave WCG off my work machine for good.

I don't see this. Can you provide a screenshot showing what you mean?

Re: Graphics on Dengue

Why don't you just deactivate or change the Screensaver and let BOINC run without it? I mean simply the Client without graphics.

Re: Graphics on Dengue

I also have stopped using the boinc because of the graphics used for the Dengue project. They just aren't appropriate for a workplace computer.

I ended up coming to the world community grid over folding at home because I wanted the screensaver, so not being able to use the screensaver is something of a big deal to me as I like to advertise in an effort to inform those around me.

If you're offended by statistics of risk factors of Hepatitis C, then just un-check Dengue from your projects list (My Projects & Device Manager profiles)...

FAAH and HPF2 are still available...

Re: Graphics on Dengue

It's actually the political writings from the students and having the words like SEX and HATE spattered everywhere that's the major problem. Especially in an office space like mine that takes general customers.

Thanks for the reminder on the ability to opt out of a particular project. I had completely forgotten about that. However, it's still a shame that they couldn't have stuck with the simple graphics for this project.

Re: Graphics on Dengue

I had to uncheck the project for the same reason. Hopefully the programmers can resolve the issue by just making the graphics like every other project.

In the meantime I guess it is FAAH and HPF2.

Yah, can someone please post a screenshot of this "controversial" graphic... just so us curious folks who are not running BONIC can know what you are talking about? biggrin (this project isn't available under UD)

Re: Graphics on Dengue

This is at least the third thread on this subject, so it appears to be serious.

Fact is that regardless of the integrity, accuracy and origin of the offending graphics, the conservatism of those who want it suppressed and whatever else, SOME people will be unable to run this project as a result. I can see no way in which it would ENCOURAGE people to be involved and therefore it is a totally counter-productive aspect that should be eliminated.

Sure - it's possible to suppress the graphic altogether as has been suggested. All this does is open the entire grid-computing issue to an accusation of being "secret" or "subversive" since IT systems always seem to be under the control of the Luddites who show their immense power and ignorance - er, I mean, influence - by making high-profile snap decisions to deliberately contradict the assurances of the technocrats - merely to show who has the last say.

It's time you get 'converted' to this client than. If you install it as a service, you wont have graphics available at all, just the expansive interface with the 'Simple View' that has the alternating pictures frame of which there are like 17, so small you need binoculars to even make out there is actual writing. That's pretty save for most casual passers by.
