Re: WCG does not give me AfricanClimate to run

Yeh! I am currently crunching my first AfricanClimate work unit.

The file is huge. It tool a long time to download even at 1 mbps connection.

By the way, where on my HDD can I go to see how big the file size really is?

Re: WCG does not give me AfricanClimate to run

Inside the BOINC directory there is a projects sub for WCG and there are slots for each job in progress. The main file is about 128mb (uncompressed). My fortune was it came down in under 6 minutes and the upload went in under 10 minutes. That main 128mb file is one-time. If you get the next job, provided there is no version upgrade or a new segment, it will be just a few mb in size coming down.

Edit: 128mb of course, the whole set about 135mb (uncompressed).

Re: WCG does not give me AfricanClimate to run

I, too, have received my first AfricanClimate WU.

Can't tell for sure how big it is or how long it took to download, but I notice that the "projected time to completion" is 22-1/2 hours! --- WOW!!!

Re: WCG does not give me AfricanClimate to run

I also picked one up overnight. First one for me. Unfortunately I never even saw it until it was already complete. It took a little over 9 hours to complete, and is already gone. I did notice that the report deadline was unusually short, being 9/25 and today is 9/21. Maybe next time I'll pay more attention and get to see one running, just to take a quick peek at the graphics.

Re: WCG does not give me AfricanClimate to run

Hi joneill003,

The regular deadlines are 5 days for the project because the next batch is dependent on the previous.... there are only 82x10 in a batch and we have to go thru 27 sequences each covering 14 days of climate simulation.

Happy to say that the WU is actually going to complete in about 1/2 the time originally projected. Hoorah!!! Looks as if it will finish in about 10 or 10-1/2 hours. biggrin

UPDATE: The WU actually finished in 9.50 hours! applause

Re: WCG does not give me AfricanClimate to run

For your information, my work unit indicates it expects to take a total of about 10.5 hours to complete. I am given 5 days to process this WU. Will surely finish long before the deadline.

The current progress is about 15% and taking up about 175 MB of RAM (much smaller than I expect).

Re: WCG does not give me AfricanClimate to run

Hello Morris-83,
AfricanClimate@Home is an opt-in project. You have to select it in Projects. Even if you do, there are only 820 work units out at any time, which means that many days can pass between getting ACH work units.

Thanks. WCG selects it automatically, because I choose to do all the project, but I'm doing only HPF2 and FAAH. OK, I'll wait. wink
