smile I am desperate for one of these workunits

Dont know about your guys and gals but I would love to crunch one of these. Getting bored of the graphics for the other projects.

I have seen screen shots of the graphics and they do look good.

Could one of you techies be so kind to send me one for my Christmas present.

Re: I am desperate for one of these workunits

I don't think there are any to crunch right now. I have not downloaded a new ACAH Wu for 5 days. When they this project up and running again, the periods between downloads was not long. The project statistics have also shown a drop in completed Wu’s. I think they have halted it again due to issues with inconclusive results.

Re: I am desperate for one of these workunits

I received one as recently as 9/30, but I believe there are only 820 WUs circulating around at a given time (at least for this phase)...so chances of getting one are slim.

Re: I am desperate for one of these workunits

its a shame that only 820 workunits will be available at anyone time. Based on that, it is quite possible that I may never get one. More chance of winning the lottery me thinks.

Re: I am desperate for one of these workunits

There's a special recipe for getting them if they are available at all, but it requires progression to the next level of cruncher nirvana .... Veteran. I'm neither and just hacked and got 3 to date.... key elements: Short buffer, AC@H as prime project and all else as 'if there is no work.....'. The Main Price: The faster you run, the more Pending Validations are shown on the Result Status page :P

Re: I am desperate for one of these workunits

I received another one today, running with high priority. Is a new batch sent out or is this a rerun leftover from last batch? confused

Re: I am desperate for one of these workunits

While I am not desparate for one of these work units, I wonder if I will get any.
On the page describing minimum hardware requirements, it says, "An Internet connection with minimum 512 kbps speed". Now I have Verizon's FiOS that downloads up to 20,000 kbps, and uploads up to 5,000 kbps speed. But if I look at other projects, they say my speeds are about Average upload rate 17.67 KB/sec, Average download rate 32.89 KB/sec. This seems to be because they cannot go as high as my connection, so they only get a reading when the connection speed is very low due to Internet conjestion or something. Will this preclude me from getting AfricanClimate@Home work units?

Re: I am desperate for one of these workunits

I tried to get one of these WUs and BOINC initially said there was no work available. A few mins later, it said "there was work but it was committed to other platforms". I hadn't previously realised that WUs in a set were locked into being run by the same machine architecture as the first one sent out.

Yes sir, with the exception of HPF2, "Homogeneous Redundancy" is the way WCG ensures that work coming back is able to validate bit for bit amongst its partners in a quorum.

Re: I am desperate for one of these workunits

I'd have thought the different platforms would be able to reliably produce the same results. If they can't, I guess it's necessary, but it's obviously not efficient. One of my machines has been getting that error for several hours now, which means that it isn't doing any work and that there are WUs sitting there that nobody has picked up yet.

Is there any particular time when these WUs are likely to become available?
