Hi everybody,
----------------------------------------probably this question has been told already? ... but I did not find any information about this. I have to re-install completely a machine but I don't wish increasing the device count (because it is still the same machine). The machine will still have the same host name and it will run the same operating system version. I would like to know how I can do for preserving the Host-ID (e.g. 2142381). At this time, I made already a backup of the boinc directory. In advance, I thank you for any useful answer(s) ! Regards, |

So long as you install to the same directory, the host ID will not be affected.
If you mean reinstalling the operating system, then it's a little more complicated. Install BOINC, but don't attach to any projects. Stop BOINC, then copy your backup of the old BOINC directory over the new installation. Restart BOINC, and everything should be back to how it was before. |

Hello Didactylos,
----------------------------------------I thank you for this confirmation. Intuitively, backuping and restoring the original Boinc-Directory was my initial idea. I assumed that it was perhaps possible to restore manually the Host-ID only. Have a good day, |

Your intuition was documented in an FAQ. All is needed in fact is the set of XML files from the old install.... not tried that myself, but others reported that solution.
----------------------------------------Have a nice day.
