Lang zal ze leven (3x)

Zij leve hoog (4x)
Ja, hoog (2x)
Zij leve hoog

Lang zal ze leven (3x)
In de gloria (3x)

Er is er één jarig, hoera, hoera
Dat kun je wel zien, dat is zij
Dat vinden we allen zo prettig, ja ja
En daarom zingen wij blij
Zij leve lang, hoera, hoera (3x)

Lang zal ze leven (3x)
In de gloria (3x)

Gefeliciteerd!

Long she will live / In the gloria / May she live high / Yes, high / May she live high praying

There is one having her birthday, hurray, hurray
That you can see, that is she
We all find that so pleasant, yes yes
And therefore we are singing cheerful
May she live long, hurray, hurray (3x)

Congratulations! rose rose rose

Adri, thank you very much for your song tongue
- and you, Nathalie, I think I'll try to thank you in French:
Je vais vous donner un bisou à la joue
- à la droite? ou à gauche? - et puis de l'autre
- et alors ça n'arrête, n'est pas?
Deux fois, pas trois?

I was afraid I should sit here all dressed up and nobody came.
Now, let me heat that cocoa for you smile

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
Am I shouting into some emptiness?
I am conducting a trek to Team SNURK & Friends.
I'm an only child. I can do things on my own.
However, in this case I have a B52 circling above, so I'm not alone.
If the sun doesn’t shine on your birthday,
you have not been a good person all of your previous year.
Applying logic:
The sun didn’t stamp in yesterday.
Therefore I was a bad person all of my last year
- a little depressing to think of.
Babies born in November in Denmark
don’t often get to see the sun on their birthdays.
November children therefore more often are bad
than are say May children.
Still, November has it’s charms and curses for everybody
- for the good and the bad alike
Did my semiannual biceps stress test - hauling Rosies winter wheels
up from the basement, had skilled motorically smart people shift them
and carried her summer wheels down into the basement.
Still going strong. I can manage one more semiyear.
And it was just in time. Look at the little blue Thursday dip.

Today the sun rose a 8:10 am here and it intends to set at 3:52 pm
But we shall hardly get to see the show of the sunset colors.
It will not really be daylight because it’s foggy.
Should the fog lift, thick clouds will presumably hide the sun.
The light hours have shrunk by 9 hours and 40 minutes since Midsummerday (June 21)
But it’s beautiful, and I would’n want it any other way
Weather in black-and-white.
Nordic Noir.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers wherever you are!
The hardness of your tap water is measured in °dH – Deutsche Härte – a German invention.
17 °dH is ’rather hard’ – that’s what I have.
Fighting the lime deposits is a quarterly chore according to my Google Calendar which manages my life.
Google Calendar has just been ’upgraded’ to an æsthetical disaster. Google offered me this upgrade for a month, and if I didn’t bite, and I didn’t, they forced it down my system. I have complained about the downgrade of the looks.
I hate decalcinating mainly because the vinegar acid I use stinks.
I hate clogged faucets and coffee maker even more, so I have tried to perfect this procedure adding a bits of improvements along the way to make it more of a scientific passtime than a chore. And my motoric skills surprisingly handle this well. I can fit the faucet sieves so accurately that I seldom need tools to unwind them, nor will they spray when installed with 'Gefühl'. So far my ultimate recipe is:

* Make a cup of coffee – the coffee maker will be unavailable for a while
* Unscrew the faucet sieves and put them into a cup of vinegar acid together with the sink plug; this is important, because if you don’t have the sieves in the faucets, the water will splash all over the place, and you will need to tap water very soon

* Replace the sieves in the faucets
* Pour the vinegar acid from the cup into the coffee maker and top up to the 2 cups mark
* Brush any deposits with one of those old toothbrushes you keep for odd jobs
* Supplement with water that now flows nicely and gently from the clean faucet to the 4 cups mark
* Close the door to the kitchen and open the window no matter how cold it is
* Run the mixture through the coffee machine and pour it into the water container again
* Let it soak a while before you run it through once more
* Run clean water through it twice
* Soak the lime circles that enevitably builds around the faucets with the vinegar acid
* Push out as much water from the toilet bowl as possible and slap vinegar acid soaked toilet paper on the lime that inevitably builds at the water level
* Pour the remainder of the vinegar acid into the toilet bowl – not much of a help, but I have another semiannual reminder in Google Calendar ordering me to pour an entire bottle of vinegar acid into the toilet bowl so it more or less fills up the water trap
* Brush and wash everything and you’re all set
* Close the window, turn up the heat as needed, and make a cup of coffee
* Repeat in three months
Google Calendar will tell me, as this along with numerous other cores are put on repeat …
A Little Water Music
At hotels they don’t bother with this.
They grow stalactite caves, and their showerheads are part of the wake-up call procedure devilish

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Thank you, bill1024 smile
Next time you visit I'll prepare some more cocoa and ask Upstairs Yvonne to bake once more.

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
My subject today is somewhat personal, but I believe in communication, and I read some of our crunchers’ experience with prostate cancer which gives me a unique glimpse into this oftenmost closed male world. retsof and keithhenry, thank you for discussing this.

I realize that most crunchers are male, but I think most of you men are connected to women who may experience what I do in one way or another. As we age mucous membranes get thinner and more susceptible to UTI (Urinary Tract Infections). A year ago I was recommended a treatment that would strenghten these membranes and fend off UTIs by my GP. When I took a close look at the medicine and discovered it was a hormone replacement (Estradiol) I threw it out and got angry. How could they prescribe this to me who is a estrogen dependent breast cancer survivor? A number of UTIs later my gynecologist made a sales pitch and assured me it was quite innocent.

Everything in this life is weighing pro and contra, so I hesitatingly agreed to give it a try. UTIs are somewhat bothersome. Three months later I discontinued it. Nobody is able to tell if my pains in my entire digestive tract, my considerably more rotten sleep pattern, my headaches, all the unwanted extra lbs. which I didn't think my intake should warrant, the change in blood pressure, my INR jumping all over the place, and the fluid retension are due to ’Vagifem’ – the brand name of the product. Most of them do correspond with the side effect mentioned on the info slip, though.

I have no scientific knowledge of how to interpret these reactions from my body, but I have my personal theory: After surgery and radiation therapy, I was enrolled in a five-year double blind four-pronged trial with what could have been Tamoxifen all the time or Letrozol all the time or 2½ years of Tamoxifen followed by 2½ years of Letrozol – or the other way around. It was easy for me to detect from my body’s reactions that I was on or the 2½ years of Tamoxifen followed by 2½ years of Letrozol version. Which was lucky for me, because it statistically turned out to be the very best combination.

Now, this bombardment of the little estrogen production women in my age bracket at the time of the cancer treatment probably has wiped out all of it what otherwise would have been left. I see it as a sort chemical neutrering which may correlate with the prostate cancer treatment. Battling the hormones! And since I had that treatment those 15 years ago, I believe my body defends itself against those pesky hormones and tries to tell me in so many ways. I stopped three weeks ago having decided that UTIs bother me less than Estrogen, still waiting to return to 'normal'.
Sorry, if you found this embarrassing.

Small news
Facebook
Saphir12 la capitaine of team Kraland and I became friends on Facebook. I intend to create a Base Camp HQ group there for what it’s worth, and as I’m wont I ran into all kinds of bureaucratic tangles … ’You have to add a friend’ angry The truth is I have none sad I tried to conscribe Upstairs Yvonne, but her account is secret and mine was top secret, so something got lost in Facebookland. I opened all doors and windows and asked Saphir12 if she had an account, and – vupti – she was there rose
Thank you so much, Nathalie- we cannot be friends at too many places, can we? smile

Movie
The last movie of the fall season in our local 'narrow movies' club was Italian ’La Pazza Gioia’ - Like Crazy - about two female ’inmates’ in a mental hospital who runs AWOL. It all comes together in the end with an ending – not really happy, but pointing forward towards hope and sealing a deep friendship Beatrice & Donatella. The music is by Gino Paoli, and Senza Fine has these lyrics in English
Without an end / Never ending
You drag our life
Without a breathing moment
To dream
To be able to remember
What we have already lived

Without an end
You are a never ending moment
you have no yesterday
You have no tormorrow
Now everything is in your hands
Large hands
never ending hands

I don't care about the moon
I don't care about the stars
You for me are the moon and the stars
You for me are the sun and the sky
You for me are everything
All that i want to have

Never ending
Never ending

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Evening Base Campers!
We have a rudimentary Facebook Group named
Base Camp HQ
the same as our unpopulated team smile
The address is here and you're invited to join. For the time being, the door is wide open.
The intention is that it should function as a replacement for our demolished castle - permanently or temporarily as we will decide.
Hope to see as many of you as possible.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
This morning I had my day in court. Never been there before, so it was a brand new thing. Half a year ago I was caught by a speed trap. I did speed, but still I found I was driving according to the conditions and kept my eyes where they should be – on the road – instead of letting them scan the shoulder for suspicious vans.

I didn’t expect them to listen to my elaborate political arguments. Not even the one I forced upon them and which related to themselves: that the budget of a new IT system for the Courts of Denmark has swelled from 63.1 mio DKK ~ US$10 mio to 160.9 mio DKK ~ US$26 mio – a 255% budget excess! That translates into 65,200 speeding tickets the size of mine. And that is only the tip of a very small iceberg. The politicians have decided that some 12 billion DKK in tax debt are lost and should not be pursued. Bad for the morale, they admit. That is some 8,000,000 speeding tickets. My list was long, the patience of the judge and the prosecutor was not.

It was interesting to try. I had no expectations whatsoever, so I was not disappointed. The judge had to decide as she did. That’s the law. And I cannot expect the law to be bent to my liking. Still, you get a little melancholy when arguments cannot penetrate the mechanical response .….

Base Camp HQ has two members now – and they are both captains biggrin welcome sujo1
… I had no particular expectations for that either wink

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
Well, the trek to SNURK & Friends was the most weight reducing so far.
Not a bad thing to get rid of some flab so there will be room for all
the eating most of us excel in during Christmas and New Year’s gettogethers.
What do you say, USAFA 82?
Oh, you ate all your Marie bisquits.
Sure, I'll stuff some in my rucksack the for the next time we pitch our tents at the same location.

The Netherlands is sick or should that be 'are'? famous for its/their cheese
– couldn’t SNURK have offered just a cup of coffee with a cheese sandwich? sad
What has this come to?
I’m ready to give the Netherlands another chance, though devilish
With a PINDAKAAS specialist, and I hope he has some of the best in test - the #1 pindakaas

I intend to build a nest with top40.nl and see how it goes pindakaas and other kaaswise.
Perchance some Base Camper wants to say hello to long time cruncher and actively Forums contributing member:
adriverhoef
- and if it were not for him being awfully busy processing 400 OCR pages
needing corrections and proofreading, I’m sure he would have entered his team into the Christmas Race
I cannot see how it’s done, but my new captain probably knows himself, if he wants to do it.
Otherwise I know Saphir12 will know.
It seems as if I have aquired a taste for races raised eyebrow
and it would be sweet with a month long one love struck

-it’s not as if there’s a shortage of cheese, SNURK
blushing EDIT: Your name, Adri
