64-bit version

I know that currently World Community Grid dosn't have a 64-bit version of the projects, but I was wondering if there would be any big advantage of using 64-bit. Is it currently of the list of things to do?

Re: 64-bit version

It gives a small advantage. 10%, 20% - it depends who you ask ;-)

Until there are more 64 bit computers out there, it will remain a fairly low priority, I think.

Re: 64-bit version

Thats about what I was thinking. There isn't a special 64-bit BOINC version right?

Re: 64-bit version

Hello jojorules,
There will be a Windows 64-bit version. It will be necessary in order to run lots of work units simultaneously in a large work space. But there will be lots of notices on the download page when it shows up. Right now, when our projects are 32-bit, what's the point?

64-bit is the future, but we are still in the 32-bit present.

Are there any operating systems left that don't have a 64-bit version? I'm kind of getting a "the future is now" vibe.

There are 64bit Windows and Linux versions available at the Boinc Download site should you wish to use them.
As D and LH have said, WCG projects are 32bit so it is not able to take full advantage, however WCG works fine with the 64bit clients and I have seen a slight reduction in crunching time and a slight increase in points running on 64bit Boinc.
