WCG is, as at time of this writing, the only project using enhanced secure connection to the project server network. Release endorsed version 5.10.45 for Windows / Mac / Linux, has had some modifications applied to better deal and automatically handle issues regarding authentication against a proxy server and SSL / HTTPS communications.

If the standard proxy settings do not permit passing upload and download of Tasks and Results there is from BOINC version 5.10.41 a new configuration flag to 'impose' the application of the appropriate proxy. For this add the line <force_auth>xxxx</force_auth> to the cc_config.xml <options> section where xxxx needs to be substituted by 1 of 4 valid parameters:

• basic
  
• digest
  
• gss-negotiate
  
• ntlm

The official BOINC wiki further explains what needs to be entered in the cc_config.xml Client Configuration file at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration . Loading of these settings can be achieved by going to BOINC grid or Advanced view, opening the Advanced menu and selecting "Read Configuration".

HTTP / URL Proxy:

Those that have to use a mandatory http address need to open up the BOINC Manager, open the Advanced menu "Options" (clients 6.10.58 and below) or Tools menu "Display and Network options" (client 6.12 and up). There select the "HTTP Proxy" tab. In there:

1) Tick the "Connect via HTTP proxy server"
2) Enter the HTTP/URL address field link information, e.g. http//company/proxy/xxxx.xxx
3) The port that the proxy is on, e.g. 8080, 3128 or the one designated by the proxy administrator.
4) Any of the other fields, IF required.
5) Hit OK
