Most of this discussion is over my head, but I am wondering if it is safer to leave LIM off. I have LIM off on all my machines and have had no problems with hung jobs in 2 months, and I am only running WCG. I understand the general benefit of LIM on (performance), but if it creates problems.....

From what I have read until now the LIM setting does not matter for getting stuck WUs eventually. It matters only for kicking it when you have got one (see posts above). If you never have stuck WUs why not set LIM ON and get its benefits when you have to stop/start your machine? But it is strictly as you like it.

Read up on what it does (Jean promised a FAQ for this as he tested all the behavioral conditions). The unofficial wiki does not tell much in terms of the effect http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Preemption . Our Stuck WU FAQ here tells to switch it off before project suspending to get a job unstuck.
----------------------------------------Historically it sped up crunching when running multiple projects and stopped loosing progress when benchmarking. I AM hyperventilating right now as benchmarking without LIM still causes checkpoint regression on v 5.10 and v 6 (confirmed with 6.2.18). Benchmarking is very hard to time if running a multicore PC and it happening exactly every 120 hours, or immediately upon boot if the PC was off at the end of the 120 hours. So to me it should be one of the exceptions where preempting always keeps job(s) in memory. THUS, switch it on if you don't want to loose progress due benchmarking! Comments plz, and D., is there anything for this happening in the fork? Edit: Correct hours in 5 days typo ![]()

JmBoullier,
----------------------------------------Regarding the forum it is on the time you or the default install have set it. You may change it by selecting "My Forum Profile" in the forum tool bar, then click "Change my information" at the top. Then you will find the Time Zone setting that you can change as you like. Mine is on GMT for convenience although France is currently GMT+2. My Forum Profile is set to Eastern Time(US), but my post times are 1 hour earlier(daylight saving?). It is now 18.22 here. It's possible that the current forum software does not manage DST. Since I have chosen UTC I have no such concern. And this possible weakness might have been one reason why I have chosen this time. But the main reason was that WCG being global and based on UTC I found it simpler to have the forum in WCG time and apply the offset mentally if I ever need it.
----------------------------------------Now if you want to discuss this more deeply that would be more correct to open a dedicated thread in the Website Support section. Cheers. Jean. |

This thread has 2 posts related to the forum time showing thread and quotes a post by lawrencehardin here:
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=21831 Chrystal Pellet, "Output File Absent" could be security permissions in AV/OS or similar. Given you also report getting new FA@H in quorum 2, it's probably better to move this to the BOINC support forum in a new thread and leave this one for the "Stuck WU" problem of HPF2. cheers
