Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 31 smilesmile

Hey all,

The Core i7 920 is up and running. Its one mighty machine! As you'd expect its doing 8 BOINC tasks at once.. But I'll be capping it down to 4 from now on though, as I'm a bit nervous at having all 8 crunching at 100%. Mind you, maxing it will likely be able to make the machine do around 35 work units a day by itself... Very tempting.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Going to have a mass gaming spree with friends tomorrow. Catch you's later biggrin

You have a lot of jealous team mates! I hope you find you can safely run 8 at a time. Will be quite impressive for one system!

We salute you on your courage!!!

Well, that ain't what they call it in the catalog but it sounds nicer.

EDIT: I don't call myself the Senile Old Fart for nothing. Here's what was behind my wierd train of thought on this one.....

The "That ain't what they call it in the catalog" is a line from the old Tumbleweed comic strip by TK Ryan. It was a strip set in the Old West and Tumbleweed was the main character - a down on his luck guy. Hildegard Hamhocker was another character. She looked like the name sounds :-) and had targeted Tumbleweed as her husband-to-be. She regularly consulted her "Husband Hunter's Handbook" and, after reading one suggestion about displaying her athletic abilities (or something like that), she proceeds to approach Tumbleweed in town doing such by standing on her hands. A shocked Tumbleweed exclaims "Hildegard Hamhocker, what do you think you are doing!" to which she replies about how she's demonstrating her athletic abilities.Tumbleweed responds with "That ain't what they call them in the catalog." at which point she realizes she forgot to pin her dress down and she's displaying her bloomers for all the world to see.

Not many folks would understand why a cruncher would go buy the latest chip even at the cost of spending some time in the doghouse.

Marc, maybe you could run all eight but cap them at 75% and see how that goes. If the heat isn't a problem, you could increase it little by little. I can understand playing it cautious though.

Wow! That's a LOT of crunching!!

For those that might be interested, we may actually have a shot at breaking 80 million points for the year. It could be a bit of a push but I don't think it's impossible. I should have some hard numbers tomorrow.
