Re: Too late status

How do you know you did not get credit?

Since BOINCview is so kind for me to tally jobs completed and using a 0 status filter on beta6, was able to reconstruct the current beta project total time, add that to last balance from before the beta in My Grid and found the total included "disappearing" job time. 6 Days closer to silver ;o)

Same way you can tell you did get credit - totals for BETA are the same as before the TOO LATE tasks disappeared - was hoping to be 4 days closer to silver .. now I'll be waiting until the next BETA test to see if I can snag a few more - in the grand scheme of things it is a very minor thing ... just competing with myself to see if I can get to gold ;-) Keep on crunching biggrin

Mine as suspected also fell off the list without credit. Guess only the lucky few will ever get Beta badges. I have only ever collected Beta points from 47 units over 2:238:02:20:03 toal crunching years giving a total of 6:11:11:35 Beta days effort. I would however much prefer the Techies to be working improving the research data than giving us points.

{Sorry for not adding Beta. Didnt really think it was necessary confused as it is a Beta forum. Wont go into arguing about never getting a badge. crying .......}

Re: Too late status

"Ever"? The project is a week old. There is a lot of work to be done for this project.

People who want to be first to get a badge are going to be frustrated, but if you take the long view, it will all work out in the end.

Re: Too late status

That one actually stayed around until today ... but alas it too has now dropped off the radar, and after the update I see that no credit was given for it either.

Well. out of the three "too late" results I had sitting there for a few days (each with 30+ hours) .. two have dropped off the system with no credits - I suspect the third one (shown below - 33.15 hours) will disappear tomorrow. Seems that a few people will miss out on credits.

Re: Too late status

it would be nice if they could keep up with makeing sure people get credited for the too lates before they drop off the map on the beta projects at least

do to the artificial short times these projects run at i can see how they will rapidly fall off the radar but being they are test work units to determin if there are porblems i would at least think they would watch them more carfully to ensure people dont get fed up trying to help and detatch from the beta process...

yes alot of us want our badges and such...but me personaly i want credit as well for this and other projects... espeically since i am loosing hours being not credited and my total BOINC score will show me decreasing with less hours and credits.

personaly i think the best solution would be to have a seprate storage for the beta listings to ensure they dont fall off the GRID wink and are actualy credited

another problem i see with these ultra short deadlines are the fact that it may take 4+ copies of the job to go out before the quarum of 2 returns in time to get it to stop sending out more jobs again this is due to the artificaly short time... if they want 8 copies of each WU sent out then set it to run 8 copies... again its just do to the handler that goes ... no response or too late send new copy out...

Re: Too late status

The deadlines are not relevant. Practical policy is to keep work listed until 4 days after the quorum validated, or the result whichever comes later. Most BOINC projects clear within a matter of 1-2 days of completion.

Why short deadline and early clearing is done was explained by knreed. CEP eats massive amounts of diskspace, quite unexpectedly as does the run times being much longer.

That said, my last few results on CEP show under 1Mb output, so it looks like a way was found to cut it by 80% or more.

The plan was to switch to 12 days deadline, so we can only wait until the queued work flushes out of the feeders.

And for ultra short / artificial, still see FAAH jobs running longer than CEP on the quad. I run with zero buffer and 0.01 connect this moment so all jobs coming in get maximum available time to complete. They get fetched very close to finishing time of current tasks underway.

One of the programmers updated us, and it's a tough nut to crack. The program is huge, so hard to optimize to find ways for steadier run times and getting rid of the PF/Kernel time that impacts... the workaround has been discussed... let them run one at the time.

Anyway, Lawrence posted a summary of issues to tackle in a separate thread in this CEP forum.

Beta badges are not easy to get, it requires you to have your system(s) configured optimally and also to have a little luck. It has taken me 5:072 years to get my Bronze in 25WU for 19 days. Most of the credit came in the CEP beta.

Reliable systems that are on 24/7 and running a small buffer (<=.3 days) and a short connect cycle are more likely to get a Beta job. Not everyone has that type of system. Personally, I don't know if the higher number of errors with CEP WU are going to mark any of my systems as unreliable.

There is a conceptual similarity between Beta and AC@H where some computers just are not going to get ANY Beta jobs, despite the wishes of the cruncher. Keep trying. smile
