What seems to be wrong with it... maybe between all the campers here we may be able to come up with a solution for you...

Re: Cybernauts 2009 recruiting thread

did you ever consider becoming a part-time Base Camper, Sgt.Joe? You would fit in well with this group of misfits.

I will put it on the burner and see how it fries. I might know someone with system who may put it to occasional use. Haven't been able to convince them yet to join.

Cheers

Joining BaseCamp is painless...well almost ...and with the right contacts....QUICK!!!!!!

the resulting "Feel Good" is well worth it ...besides you can come and go as you wish....no obligations

BaseCamp is the most Gypsy bunch of crunchers you could possibly imagine!!!!!

Re: Cybernauts 2009 recruiting thread

I didn't get any email yet sport.

cswchan: I have driven some fairly nice people nuts with my lack of teck savvy. it has been turning itself off for a couple of weeks without activity, and I thought it was a power setting thing that I would get to eventually. Friday I had difficulty getting it to power up. It being a Sony vista home premium. Than when I did get it running, I had no access to the tool bar, the thingy at the bottom of the screen. I could not shut down without using control/alt/delete. I kept playing with it...probably caused more problems, but I could access the start link, but there was nothing in the window...it was white with no links. I could at that time access the program files through the all program thingy. I tried system restore. The system said it was unable to restore....dumb system!!!

I tried to have norton file back up restore....again it would not restore and went into frozen mode. I can't remember what else I did. oh..this computer is about 3 years old....about 120 in computer years?? LOL

Any ideas anyone has, besided my tossing it out the window would be greatly appreciated.

I tested the cybernauts email and nothing came through, so there may be another problem....Like I need one more <sigh>

Thanks

Shirley

Re: Cybernauts 2009 recruiting thread

Initial problem sounds like the lappy is over heating. This can be cured by blowing out the dust from the inside through all the various orifices of the laptop... usually with compressed air. A vacuum cleaner would not wotk here. If you turn the laptop on it's top, you will see various openings (slats) also on the back (where the hinges are). Just use the compressed air liberally in these openings.

Re: Cybernauts 2009 recruiting thread

I agree, the major problem is heat. Get a can of compressed gas used for cleaning. Also make sure the fan is running. Once the heat gets stable, some of your problems may go away. Set your task bar to "always remain on top" so you don't "lose"it. wink After that, let us know what problems remain. peace

EDIT: You might want to load a free copy of CoreTemp to see you CPU temps. http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Re: Cybernauts 2009 recruiting thread

uhoh....I can't follow directions. I did the compressed air with the laptop off. I am online with the laptop but still using a backdoor approach, my taskbar is not working. some aps are not working because the computer can't find the .dll thingy. I don't think my fan is running with me online...it sounds different. a little crackling but not the usual fan sound.
I am going to try to redownload the grid now...wish me luck!!
