part 2: I rebooted after redownloading the grid. IE came up by itself...that is new...the grid icon is in the taskbar, but for the last ten minutes my cursor has been going around in circles on the taskbar.....frozen? I can't check it to change settings or even see if it is working. still circling....should I turn this off and wait a while ..afraid I might not get the grid back if i do.

Just a thought...reboot and do an F8 for safemode; then a virus scan then a Restore...just a thought

I don't think I can do a restore....my dvd/cd is not being recognized...though messing around in the bowels of this machine I did manage to see the files on the dvd...so parts are working...kind of like me!! Don't get me started on memory.
While looking at the guts I went into explorer to look at files and try to find a file (motherboard chipset) I had downloaded from Sony. I could not find it...search program is MIA. Anyhow, explorer froze, I Xed out of it and the task bar came alive. I so totally hate computers!!! Like I said parts are working and I am at the moment able to send in some work units....for how long I don't know. I am going to have dinner, forget the computer even exist for a little while anyhow. Sport I did go into safe mode for a bit...did not think to run virus scan...can I do that in safe mode? I will try that later since the task bar seems to be working for now. Mega thanks to all who have tried to help....a brain transplant would be more useful...for me and the computer!!!!! BTW we are still looking for awesome team members!! Shirley |

Shirley I'm not sure if you can run YOUR AV in safe mode ....BUT once you get into safe mode do Start>>>>All Programs>>>Accessories>>>System Tools>>>System Restore....and pick a previous restore point back to where you think the machine was stable....this can be undone if it doesn't work or makes things worse

I tried to do a restore, and the stupid computer said it was unsuccessful, or something like that. I did manage to run my AV program, and it only found 1 tracking cookie.
Another rather odd thing is that I track in notebook some cc info without specific numbers or anything. I went to update it, and the last couple of months notations were gone. I tried to reload that from my thumb(flash) drive and it would not do that either. I may have to take it to the Geeksquad, but can't afford it right now...maybe next month!!
