Yo we've done it in style 10,015,488 points
----------------------------------------![]() 168,245 points yesterday a great days crunching and 270 days and 21 hours of run time. Thanks to all the members of My Online Team. Not in my wildest dreams did I think we would find ourselves here when I signed up My Online Team on the 16th November. Me and Jonathon just thought we might just hang on to the top 100 if we were really really lucky. It has been an amazing experience seeing the team taking on a life of it's own and your constant support, enthusiasm and dedication to our little BIG team. You are second to none. To any potential team member out there there really are only 146 of us here still on MOT we would like your help to take the challenge to IBM Corp. We can do it........ Night from the UK Dave ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Apr 2, 2005 1:21:31 AM] |

Does being in a team make any difference?
So far ive only done 11 days worth of folding, since im on a laptop I cant leave it running 24 hrs (wish i cud), if i left it running all the time the laptop would probably melt!! it feels really hot on one side for some reason. Anyway back to my question, if i joined a team would it speed up the project in any way at all? Im all for curing diseases, even with all theses pc's worldwide helping, wont it take decades to cure the simplest thing. Dave |

Hi David,
----------------------------------------Your being in a team or not being in a team won't speed up the project in any way whatsoever. Your PC's crunching will contribute to the overall success of the World Community Grid come what may. However...... Being part of a team adds a bit of fun to your crunching endeavours and kicks off that competative spirit which added up over all the teams provides the extra contribution of PC clock cycles to the World Community Grid. Examples of how this happen are 1) To keep your position in the team you leave your PC on for longer than you normally would. How many times do you leave your PC on just until that Work Unit has completed? 2) You find yourself looking through PC magazines checking out the price of Motherboard/CPU combinations looking to get the most extra points for your £. This is the addictive side of Crunching and being a team member. 3) It helps you to recruit more of your friends and family as it gives you a way to talk about your involvement in a team and the WCG and gives them something to join up to rather than simply having their PC switched on all the time. I have added about 6 of my work collegues to the grid through this method - this gets the overall job of the grid done more quickly. 4) Team members can help you out with your PC problems which means your PC is running longer crunching for the grid. 5) You gain some great friends from all around the world. Which by any measure can only be a good thing. On the Laptop front - if your Laptop cooling is not keeping up with extra heat generated as a result of running the Grid Agent. Try having a look at the application described in this thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2169 As for curing diseases and how long it will take I can only add that we have to start somewhere. Each day that you add will reduce the time taken to reach that cure. I hope this helps Regards Dave ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Apr 2, 2005 11:15:01 AM] |
