Hi,
----------------------------------------The rss news feed from this website does not work, it never has worked either, its missing dates for each news item. The result is that in peoples news readers, items with no date default to the bottom if the software can't find a date for each news item. The rss tag for this is called <pubDate> and its missing from your news feed that you guys have when you post news in messages on this forum. So in effect there is no news coming from this project that can be read by either users or the media in general unless they are vigilant enough to read messages posted on this forum. This is very unlikely in the real world as 95% of internet users will never visit a forum. What journalist is going to visit the WCG forum every day to see if there is new news posted on the forum. I have already contacted Kevin Reed twice by email about this over the last 2 months and a new add-on is available for this MVN forum that fixes the problem. The new code is available here; MVN forum version 1.2GA; http://www.mvnforum.com/mvnforumweb/index.jsp?main_idx=2&idx=2 In general "News" should be one of the options available in the top menu on this website on the front page, or all pages. Even if you guys installed Blogging software like Wordpress as a temporary measure, this would allow the team here to create accounts on the blog and to post readable news with a proper RSS feed. I am aware you guys are planning upgrading this forum when you have time. But really the news from this project should not be posted into forum messages with BB code tags anyway. Take the bold step and install something like Wordpress, its free and loads of free templates are available to match this website. It would make life so easy for you guys to login and actually concentrate on the writing the content of your news item. And the rest of the world could read it too  John. Your complaint has two major flaws:
1. pubDate is optional. 2. No RSS readers that I know of have any problems parsing the feeds from WCG. |

Confirmed. My RSS feeds including the one for Current Threads shows this post too. All feed links I've not read show in bold and chronologically, newest at top. FFX 3.07.

I have subscribed to several of the WCG forums in Google Reader and have new items delivered when they are posted with the appropriate dates.
Ireland BOINC, what RSS feed reader are you using? Perhaps I can try to recreate your issue. |

Perhaps I can try to recreate your issue. I am parsing news from all the BOINC projects in one single aggregated news page. I programmed it in php. The news is displayed here on the United BOINC website; http://www.unitedboinc.com/en/project-news , but WCG is not included for the reason stated. Its the only BOINC project that is not included, but WCG is important so i hope we can fix this issue. If the WCG feed does not contain <pubDate> for each news item, i have no way of sorting news from this project with other news from other projects. When MVN forums first released the rss add-on that this project is using, there was an error in the code. The error meant that each news item gets <lastBuildDate> as the news item date. But the <lastBuildDate> tag is for telling when the whole feed was last updated, its not for individual news item dates. Shortly after MVN forums released that code with the error, they fixed the problem, but unfortunately WCG got a forum version with the error in the code. As mentioned in my first post, the new MVN forum rss code page is now available. I am introducing some new features for people very soon, i would prefer if WCG was included as part of the new feature.
