What a game from Federer ![]() You forget something Den Frederick John Perry was the last British player to win the Wimbledon,( long time ago ) will Andy Murray from Glasgow able to win this year at Wimbledon ?? Let´s wait and see .. Regards You are obviously discounting the womens game... Virginia Wade won on the early 70s !Perry was a long time before that! |

----------------------------------------![]() 1700hrs uk time well done mr Murray I wasn't bothered about what or where the tennis player came from JP it was the commitment and endurance back then that inspired me to watch since that time ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by densnaps at Jul 1, 2009 4:09:30 PM] |

The ladies games in prior years
----------------------------------------Evonne Goolagong/ Cawley, Billie Jean King/ Moffat Margaret Court been there seen those great names playing Ginny Wade ( mayhap a relation of our Kapitan ???) and Susan Barker maybe our greatest lady players I know they are not current contenders but the rest of the world has to strive against the odds to play at Wimbledon ![]() ![]() Our current girl Laura Robson fell off the scene with a back injury but was a brave effort dedication the name of the game ... Ps I have to say sorry for my sometimes immoderate language in these threads I do get over heated once committed to the keyboard its there for ever I will try to be less outspoken in future despite my sometimes weird views I'm not a bad bloke I don't wish to upset our community by getting up peoples noses kick me if I fail in your eyes Sorry to all and thanks to one lady in particular ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by densnaps at Jul 1, 2009 5:17:24 PM] |

Evening all
Glad you had a good time Merle and I'm not surprised about the prices. It's bad enough at Lord's when there's a Test Match on and the Champagne bars are in full swing. What I do admire about Wimbledon, however, is that although you have to be pretty well off to try for a debenture they've still kept a proportion of the tickets for sale at face value prices on the day of play so, if you get in the queue early enough you can see top class tennis for £20. It must be the only high profile event in the calendar that does that any more. I shall see the touts outside the tube when I go to the Ashes Test where even some members have had to be disciplined for selling Rover Tickets on eBay after getting them in the ballot. Anyway, I'm glad Andy's still there although, if I were a betting man I think my money would be on Federer. He really wants this one after last year. However, I'm also a pretty poor betting man. |

Thanks JP - he is lovely. Trouble is, I want to cuddle him!
----------------------------------------![]() ![]() I think you are spot on Ivan, I reckon Federer will win and what's more, I think he deserves to. Plenty of time left for Andy! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 1, 2009 9:25:44 PM] |
