I can't wait till my 8800's get here. This GPU crunching looks pretty cool. Too bad WGC doesn't have it yet - seems like it would really help them out. Oh yeah - I saw esoteric17 fly by me today. Talk about some serious crunching! ![]() ![]() Esoteric is a BEAST on WCG, but here's a secret, I actually get more boinc credits per day because of GPU crunching. Your 2 8800GTs should produce about 12k-14k ppd (points per day) together, or about the same as my 260 GTX. If you were to oc your 8800GT (VERY DOABLE!) you might see more like 14k - 15k ppd. You're right to recognize the power of parallel processing. When WCG gets GPU processing, that's when the computer power available in the grid begins to expand rapidly as people start to connect their GPUs to the grid. ![]() OH NOES! MY SECRET ADVANTAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Don't forget join MOT at these other projects when you start crunching (CPU or GPU) there. You will want to attach to the project with the same email id you used here. Once you do that, go into your account and set your username to match what you're using here too. That seems to ensure that places like BOINCStats track your credits together for all the projects you crunch at. I’m headed over to YoYo if you want to open a team there. Otherwise the credits will go to the bit bucket. AQUA is apparently now trying to limit crunchers. When they implemented checkpointing their crunchers came back and overwhelmed them. Now they have implemented new wu’s that take weeks to run with no trickle-up credits. Talk about shooting yourself in the other foot!! I’ll not be crunching there. ![]() ![]() |

No love for QMC? |

![]() Is GPUGRID also working on a solution to get also ATI cards running ? Or if WCG will add GPU support would it also support ATI cards ? |

No love for QMC? I loved them 222,820 times! ![]() I like yoyo better. Actually they are structured very similar to WCG. They have 4 projects, always have work, never a bad wu, long and short run times, generous credits and badgies thingies. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Apr 10, 2009 4:29:44 PM] |

So I'm not sure. For the person above who has issues with their factory overclocked cards not working, get OCCT (http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download) and run the GPU test. Make sure you run it full screen with error checking on at your monitors native resolution. An hour per card should be good. |

Anyone know why my BOINC client with the 260 has 4 GPUGrid work units? Doesn't it normally have 2? It used to only have 2 until I put 9800GT in, then it became 4. Now I took 9800GT out and it's still 4. I tried reattaching. I don't want to install since.. I have to cancel all my current work units.
My 9800GT only has 2 in system #2. |

I usually have 3 but 4 is not uncommon for me. Depends on the size of the wu and your work buffer. My work buffer is .01. BOINC still does not handle the GPU work buffer very well. ![]() ![]() |

How is GPUGRID? I think I want to get nVidia and crunch there instead of Folding@home. I think they have sufficient resources and I get a weird/stuffy vibe on their forums.
