Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

8.25% officially per Wednesday, Dec. 2. On WU count based, us having done 1 million more than received by the scientists, about 9.2%.

- Completed by WCG 9751110 (After division for Quorum)
- Received by Scientists 8723082

Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

Just got a parent workunit from batch 200... we are into the 200s, it seems!

Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

I got a batch 200 too. I think we are going through batches quickly now, because each batch contains relatively fewer positions than some of the previous batches, especially 146 through 149.

Check out the very large HCMD chart. (Click on one of the "batch status" links on this page, and then click on the "very large chart" link at the bottom of the page.)

Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

Judging from that chart, at least, it is mostly smaller batches until around the 350s.

Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

Taking into account the difference in WU completed here (quorum 2) and the WU reported on the progress site and it's relative increment in positions, WCG side, we'll be passing the estim. 10% done mark probably today. Lastly the official percent increased from 8.25 to 9.04. (Wednesday update) i.e. we're about a week ahead of the published numbers.

applause Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

Well we don't have the latest chart updates, but I suspect that we have either just crossed, or will cross 10,000 CPU Years of crunching on this project. By my VERY rough projections on the last documented CPU Years/day that should by today, +/- one day given variation.

Congratulations and thanks to all contributors to this effort!!!

Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

No need for charts, the project stats page showing 9,985 CPU years as off noon today, which should turn to 10k plus after the midnight refresh.

Given a gap in my project level data of 12 days [have to do some groveling to get those], I'm not in a position to show a correct chart, so for now keep looking at this http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProject.do?projectShortName=hcmd2

edit: The official progress page has not had it's standard weekly update since Dec.16 showing 9.49 percent. Guesstimate we're now at about 11%... i.e. 10k years extrapolates to 90k years required till completion. Work is promised to get lighter though as the project progresses.

But what does it make that a calculation is more or less long?

Why do times, it take 6 hours to carry out a complete calculation and are other times 2:30 enough?

Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

But what does it make that a calculation is more or less long?

The total work to do for this project has been expressed by the scientists as the number of positions to compute, i.e. 137,652,178,995, and the percentage already returned to the scientists is also based on positions.

Take two jobs that one of my devices has returned recently
CMD2_ 0256-1X8Y_ A.clustersOccur-2NNW_ B.clustersOccur_ 1_ 60307_ 69903_ 0 has taken 1.37 hour for 9,597 positions, i.e. 0.143 hour per 1,000 positions, and
CMD2_ 0278-MAOMA.clustersOccur-2ACX_ A.clustersOccur_ 30_ 69604_ 70183_ 1 has taken 1.32 hour for 580 positions, i.e. 2.276 hour per 1,000 positions, or almost 16 times longer per position.

If, as the scientists said, there will be more and more jobs of the first type and less and less of the second one as the project progresses, then we will compute more and more positions per week and the percentage of work done will be more and more in line with their estimated end date (end of 2011). From the work done on December 16 a linear estimate would give an end date somewhere in 2014/2015!

Re: The Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy Crunching Chart

The number of positions in a task and speed of a device determines the run time, PLUS, that jobs not completing 60% of the positions included in a task are capped at 6 hours. The remaining positions not computed in that 6 hour limit are then put into a child/grandchild/great grandchild task and send to the next device requesting work. These xxxchild tasks are usually the ones that do run shorter than 6 hours, but can run up to 12 hours as well, which is the absolute cap at which time the current position is allowed to finish and the task closed ... and so on.
