Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

Howdy MOT
I took some time away from the garden and finished the build on the machine with 3 9800GT's. With the new MoBo I had to do a complete, clean reinstall of Vista to convenience Balmer that I actually owned the operating system. angry devilish angry It took over two hours to do updates. angry The rest went smooth except BOINC only sees 2 cards. The device manager sees 3 cards with the correct drivers, Precision sees 3 cards and Speedfan sees 3 cards. With PhysX off BOINC only sees 1 card and with it on it sees 2. I don't know what else to do. Anyone have any ideas?? confused
The good news is the temps are very good; GPU1 72C, GPU2 69C, GPU3 45C (because it is not doing anything)
I ran out of Artic Silver; when it gets here in the morning I will build the machine with 2 GTX260's. smile
BOINCStat's has been real slow to update the ranking for the last 2 days. I think we are #186 but we may actually be #185.

No matter, we are moving up in the world.. biggrin

I'm sure someone will have ideas on what to do to make it recognize the third card.. (not me though.. lol). If your card stops breathing or has a viral illness, let me know.. devilish

Question:

I have been seeing 6 core CPU's starting to be advertised.. and i'm sure 8 core cpu's can't be too far behind? Will wcg recognize 6 cores, or will people only be able to run 4?

BOINC will recognize as many as there are. WCG has nothing to do with it.

Yeah, I cut all my pcs off from WCG. I'm all in at YOYO and GPU.

I'm at YoYo and GPUGrid too. We are doing very well there. Only 70K more credits and I will get a gold muon badge then only 500K more and I get double gold (master level). It takes a heap of crunching to get badges there. smile
We'll kick some bootie at GPUGrid if I get that 3rd 9800 and the two 260's back up and running. biggrin

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

How are we in the overall rankings? I notice on results and points we seem to be slipping here in WCG.. but I'm glad we're rockin' the boat so to speak on other projects! biggrin

Dr. Mike...

Actually, I think we've noticeably slowed the slipping here along with kicking it in gear across other projects. We keep moving like we have been here and I think we'll see us start to rise again.

Dr. Mike

One of the device profile settings is the number of CPUs to use. As long as that number is equal to or greater than what you have, BOINC will use all of yours. As for the true 8 core CPU, it's just a matter of time though I wonder just how far we can go in that direction that's practical. The thing with CPUs is the industry does what makes money, not what's best technically. First it was hyperthreading, then you had a real dual core. The first quads were two dual cores together. The i7 is a quad with HT. Now you start to hear about six cores. Go figure.
