Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

Stupid, I am!
I started the build on the 2 card machine. I went to snap in the I/O shield into the case and promptly slit my index finger open on it from the second knuckle to the tip. The top edge is not knurled like it should be and is sharp as a scalpel. And a fine job I did too. Blood all over the MoBo, heat sink, empty PCIe slots, table and carpet. Everywhere!!
By the time I got the bleeding stopped and the finger bandaged the blood had dried on the MoBo. If anyone is interested. Since Newegg does not sell “Motherboard Blood Remover”, an entire box of foam q-tips and isopropanol works well albeit a quite tedious job with a bandaged finger. I usually name machines DM1 through DMx. If this one works, I’m going to name it “Bloody Mary”!
Stupid and careless, I am! Another reason I hate hardware.
Do you make house calls Dr Mike? laughing
I’m going to bed now. Tomorrow is another opportunity for me to be STUPID and careless!!! angry

Yeeouch! Even reading about it is painful. Hope it stops hurting soon and that "Bloody Mary" lives long to contribute much to grid processing!

I can assure you that you are not alone. I do this sort of thing with frightening regularity. While the frequency has decreased in recent years, the healing time has increased to match. So don't feel too bad..or at least find solace in the fact that you have many fumble fingered companions. smile

Thanks everyone. It just ticks me off when something like this happens just because I was not paying attention to what I was doing. But I guess the real reason is because now I can't complete the build with this big fat bandaged finger. sad I can't do even the simple power connections much less those teeny, tiny LED pins. Oh well, live and learn. But you would think at my age I would have learned by now.

Anybody have a left-handed mouse? laughing biggrin laughing biggrin laughing

Rest up and take something for the pain... or maybe a couple of shots of something for the pain ... biggrin ... even if it doesn't actually hurt.

It just so happens I have a left-handed mouse in the same toolbox with my left-handed sockets and screwdrivers. laughing

Hey DM,

The last time I bleed all over a mother board, it took 3 stitches to close the cut, and when I got home I managed to get the mb back out of the case.
I then took it out on the patio, turned on my hose and sprayed all the blood off of it. Then I let it sit in the sun all day. (after removing the little battery) wink
That night, I installed it back in the case, put all of the stuff back on it, turned it on and no smoke.
In fact, I am still using that motherboard - it's my main computer.
When I dam(n) near cut my finger off, I was more worried about my brand new motherboard than my finger! LOL
I think age changes one's priorites! biggrin
