I have no idea why they would want to make some little changes to one or two badges and leave the rest. Hi all, I had a short online chat with uplinger today (we are employed in the same company). He is not the responsible person for badges, but he has passed along this thread to the right mailbox. Maybe that helps a little bit to get a statement. Hi roundup The reason for not using these badges is simple..... it is our policy not to use anything from outside of our company. Why do we have such a policy... because our company has a strict policy about the use of any material created by persons from outside the company. Something to do with copyrights and lawsuits. |

While I think the badges the big D created are great I also understand the IBM/ WCG position, which as a general practice it is very secure. The screams and howls would be heard round the world if they have to pull money out of WCG project work to defend against a lawsuit. That is not to say I expect that the big D would do this but once the door is opened it is hard to shut.
That being said, I agree that ignoring this topic which has such enthusiatic support was a mistake. If it had been addressed exactly the same way much early on I doubt that there would be quite as much disappointment. ![]() |

I take it then, that Didactylos doesn't work for IBM...

I agree that the communications could have been handled better and yes, Didactylos does not work for IBM.... none of the CA's work for IBM.

Hi bbover3, thank you so much for your statement and the explainataions of the policy. It is a pity that the initiative will not be fruitful, but I also understand the copyright / intellectual property / policy issues very well. As I stated earlier in this thread: If this was a perfect world it wouldn't be ruled by lawyers and accountants... But in this case I think we just have to respect that. However, Didactylos showed that there is room for improvement in the badges. Maybe one day we see some nice replacements that come from inside the company.... Greetings and best regards Martin "roundup" |

So the solution, then, is obvious to me: Hire the man as a consultant for an hour. Have him 'develop' even newer icons and then you're done.
