And he's back! Welcome back, John! Thanks! I thought I would start a team to join a challenge, but after some thought, decided to return 'home'. I AM BACK and shortly will replace my six core AMD 1090T @ 3.2 GHz with an eight core AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz. One vendor has dropped the price by $20 and my normal store matches competitors' prices, so.......This should enable me to crunch some at least 40% - 50% more for the same electricity consumption. Soon, real soon. BTW does anyone have any experience to share about the performance of the FX-8350? My engineer friend who builds my PCs for me has built gaming PCs on this CPU and thinks these are exceptional processors. But, I was wondering about WCG performance. Thanks. +Pax+ ![]() crunching, crunching, crunching. AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-core Processor with Windows 11 64 Pro. Welcome back! That sounds like a pretty good deal on the AMD FX-8350. I don't have one to give my own results, but I compared it with a 1090T over at WUProp's pages. I looked at Clean Water and Malaria, you can check whatever projects you prefer, just select one from the auto-hide "Le Menu" on the left. It looked like the 8350 was at least as fast or slightly faster per WU. Then add in the additional cores, you should definitely be ahead of the game.

And Welcome to "sovrngrace" who joins the fold. Actually, it looks like sovrngrace has returned from a long walkabout. They originally joined WCG on 15 Jan 2006, then joined Christians on 16 Jan 2006. They left at some point but apparently didn't join another team. Also, they apparently never crunched a WU until yesterday! Welcome back, sovrngrace! ![]() Yes, Welcome back! Thanks for joining us for this part of the journey. Great crunching, MatthewGM1! I first noticed you when we were about neck and neck in the daily rankings. Now you're blowing me out of the water! ![]() John, I agree, the data available through WUProp is pretty amazing, especially for a guy like me who loves pouring through that sort of thing. That data is gathered by Boinc volunteers who run the WUProp project alongside their normal Boinc crunching. Each unit runs for 3 hours and records data about whatever is running in your Boinc client during that time frame. It's very low CPU usage, the most I saw it use is 0.22% of the CPU (literally 24 seconds) during the 3 hour WU. A few of us have even made a small but mighty team for that project too. |
