"According to UBS, policymakers may have to take measures to prevent widespread bankruptcies in the European electricity market.

According to their data, some 70 GW of coal and gas-fired power generation shut-downs have occurred in the last five years, and the pace is increasing, according to the analysis.

The report also identifies a further 24 GW of thermal plant to be under threat of closure over the next two years.

The data compiled shows that nearly half of the remaining 260 GW of coal- and gas-fired generation in Europe is cash-flow negative, meaning they do not earn enough money to cover basic costs"

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

The May result is in and the average temperature from 2438 NOAA Weather Stations around the Globe was 16.817C

Edged out of top spot by 2012. Warmer than last May by 0.157C

The average temperature June 2014 through to the end of May 2015 was 12.680C, an increase of 0.013C over the yearly average to the end of April

Here's another forum friendly sized graph that updates hourly

The graphs above are (at this moment in time) the result of 95,889,877 individual temperature measurements taken around the Globe from (the same set of) NOAA Weather Stations since the beginning of 2011 cool Slowly closing in towards the 100 million mark

On average every 1.5 seconds another temperature reading is added to the database .... wink

Feel free to write what you think?

Hi KLiK

It's a voluntary thing, you don't have to do it. So, for me, I'm not looking for the taxman's help

(That's the last place to look for help)

In the UK we have Gift Aid where your tax at basic rate is added to your donation to charity but even this I struggle with justifying the redirection of tax money to a charity of my choice to that tax being used as originally intended - Schools, Hospital, Doctors, Armed Forces, paying the National Debt etc etc

I just wish our tax money was spent more effectively and therefore reduced to it's lowest level possible which would mean more money in everyone's pockets

That's all we can hope for from a Government and Revenue and Customs

U r right...but:
1. equipment costs!
2. equipment has to be maintained...some of it has to be replaced!
3. equipment is RUN on electricity...which cost MONEY, on which all of us pay TAXES.

I'm not asking 4 much...just a certificate that it's easier to show (part of) electricity as donation! Just to show our cost of donation as a donation - which IT IS a donation! wink

I like

You're right, but ....

I do it just because we can

I'll keep doing it until they shut me down or cut me off

Last week I received the glorious opportunity to be one of the first people to have a smart meter

Yeah right .. I know where they are going with that
