Sunny and mid 60s today but rain is moving through overnight. They'll be bowling in Valhalla tonight. We'll get our due though - back into the 40s/20s for the second half of the week. No spring yet but did see some geese headed north already.

We now have six year to date millionaires and continue to grow our daily pace. If we can grow it just under another 10K points a day, we'll pass the pace for a 155 million year.

For those of you starting or wanting to crunch DDDT2, here's some things I've noticed:
----------------------------------------First, if you want to get another badge for Rice, do it fast. Rice supposedly has another one, maybe two, months left. Looks like DDDT2 will be a short project - possibly six months based on Sek's chart. The Type A DDDT2 WUs are monsters. BOINC's been estimating the ones I have at 50-60 hours but they are actually looking like 40-45 hours. That's on a Q9300 Quad at 2.5 GHz. I'm seeing about 700 credits being claimed on average - that's about 5000 points per WU. If you run only DDDT2, you'll have feast and famine days possibly points-wise unless you can manage to have half of those active finish each day. More than likely, you'll be waiting on them to get out of the PV jail, especially with the 14 day reporting deadlines. Things may be better once we start getting the smaller type B and C WUs but be careful with these type As. I've only set my quad to crunch DDDT2 so far. The C2D will be back on HFCC in the next few hours once it wraps up a couple of Milkyways. At least that way, I can count on some points each day. DDDT2 is going to make our numbers a bit more erratic for now. |

Just noticed something else about DDDT2. BOINC defaults to switching between projects every 60 minutes. Normally, I wouldn't think that setting would matter if all you are running is WCG. It may be a result of me adding FreeHAL on my quad but I saw BOINC switch from once DDDT2 WU to another. With the infrequent checkpoints on the type A's, this switching may end up wasting a good bit of crunching time. If you've got an active WWWT2 type A WU, you can click on Advanced/Preferences and, in the Switch between Applications field, enter the estimated hours to complete times 3600 (to convert it to seconds). You'll see the WU running, high priority which means normally it will run until it finishes. Note that BOINC normally won't get new work during that time but you can just click on the clear button to go back to your normal settings. This may matter to those of you who prefer to try to squeeze out as much work from your machines as you can.
