The amazing thing about the wayback machine, this page as when it was published in 2008 :)

For GIB@ http://www.utmb.edu/discoveringdenguedrugs-together/ Normally, these calculations require thousands of years of computer time. However, the combined power of World Community Grid computers will enable this project to be completed within 9-12 months. Hummm, I guess that will be faster... After read the Uplinger's post below: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28528 I guess that will lasting for less than your evaluation, just due the "overbooking" of many crunchers selecting it in the race to get a new badge and help the project quickly, and if we don't have many interruptions along the way obviously... Anyway appear that will be a short time project. ![]()
Cheers ! GIB@

GIBA,
----------------------------------------the webpage randzo refers to is from 2008. Plz read rest of this thread [what I posted too]. Once the project has been running for a while, in on and off mode that comes with intermittent supply we'll get a better idea. For now I'm charting it for 6+ months

GIBA, the webpage randzo refers to is from 2008. Plz read rest of this thread [what I posted too]. Once the project has been running for a while, in on and off mode that comes with intermittent supply we'll get a better idea. For now I'm charting it for 6+ months Sekerob, thank you for your attention on that, but I read your post about it before post my coment quoting Randzo post. So I keep my coment about Randzo post related with project duration, and ask you please read more deeply my post, once my assumption was based over Uplinger's post as I mentioned... ![]() ![]()

I was kind of wondering whether there is a graphical way to monitor the status of the different kinds of work units in the project. If not, then when do you expect all of the "A"- type work units to have been distributed, and when do you expect the first "B"- type workunits to come out? And, if there is an overlap, then (approximately) when would you expect the number of "B"- type workunits that are loaded on the server ready for distribution to members to exceed the number of "A"- type workunits that are also ready to start?
Sorry about all the questions! Hope to hear from you soon though.... Thanks, Jonathan |

They've been all answered in previous posts... just rereading them for myself... the magical numbers are A 25 > B 50 > , C 250 * 25, found them all in this thread, all multiplied by 2 as this is a quorum 2 project, then multiplied by 40, because that's the groups with a target, there being 18 targets on the project, Starting at A we need 1 or more groups of 25 to send to the scientists and lastly, none have been completed yet, the crystal ball not very telling. Now thinking 6 months project duration was optimistic. 993 returned of the first 2,000 results after 8.5 days having been released into the grid. Once the flow is going each of these 18 x 40 'waterfalls' will run/trickle independently.
----------------------------------------To your first question, Graphical way? Are you offering v.v. discussion here http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28551 ? It's a fun task, but time consuming.

Okay,
----------------------------------------I see that there are 36,000 total "A"- type workunits, which will produce 72,000 "B"- type workunits, which in turn will produce up to 22,000,000 "C"- type workunits. The "A"- type workunits are divided into batches of 25 per batch, and 40 batches have been sent out so far, for a total of 1,000. Now I understand that after each batch of 25 "A"- type units is returned, the researchers do some crunching on their end to produce 50 "B"- type workunits, correct? Or do they wait for all of the first 1,000 to come back before any "B"- type workunits are generated? In any case I understand there will be some overlap between the different types, depending on the timing of the different "waterfalls," so that at any given point in time there could be only "A"- type units in circulation, a combination of "A"- and "B"- type units in circulation, only "B"- type units in circulation, all 3 types of units, a combination of "B"- and "C"- type units in circulation, or only "C"- type units. In fact, I can think of an (unlikely) scenario in which only "A"- and "C"- type units would be in circulation, and no "B"- type. Anyway, please give me a clearer idea of when one might be able to pick up some "B"- type units? Finally, when you refer to "targets" are you referring to the viral proteases themselves, or something else? Thanks, Jonathan [Edit 2 times, last edit by jonathandl at Feb 27, 2010 2:38:11 AM] |

jonathandl,
----------------------------------------The post of Uplinger above, asks to also read a x-linked thread which was created for the technical explanation. In there is a post: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28528#268754 which says: 1. Each group has 25 type A work units in them. For example the first set of work units had 1000 work units total. These were split into 40 batches (or groups). 2. Once 1 batch is completely done, then we send it back to the researchers. No need to wait for the others. 3. there will be 50 work units in a type B batch. 25 will be pe, 25 will be se. 4. Again, only need to wait for each batch. 5. 250*25 is the approximate number of work units in a batch. -Uplinger Can't predict when actual B or C will arrive, in fact if I were the techs and wanted a much wider dissemination (virtual parallel processing in stead of serial) thus average speedier return, I'd pretty quick go mum after the first few B and C types have been fed into the system. Why 18 A type 'targets' as I chose to refer to (originally there being talk of ~20), can't tell. The first is coded erlc and the next will be hivp (an explanation requested what each of these monikers stand for, see http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ad,28551_offset,50#268948 ). For all I could guess, the researchers might not even wish to tell at this stage what their focus and angle is. Big Pharma reading too.
