Re: c-types arrived

Today I happened to notice on the machine that runs BOINCview that everything had run dry,
It has been announced from the beginning that results from type A and type B WUs need to be reviewed by the scientists before generating type B and type C WUs respectively, and consequently there will be times where no DDDT2 WUs are available.

This is particularly true during this start up period and selecting DDDT2 without the option "send work from other projects if none is available for my selected projects" exposes your clients to run dry if you cannot monitor them very closely and frequently.

Please note that such unavailability periods might still happen later too, even when/if the flow appears to be more consistent when this ramp up period will be over.

Hm, this will result in VERY long validation times. The reason is that badge hunters will try to fill their buffers to bridge those times where no more work is available, rather than staying at low buffers.

And yes, I got my fist DDDT2 work unit. It took 0:55 hours, so I only need about 366 more of these to get my brown badge...

Regards,
Martin

Sound prediction.
I've got a type A stuck in PV. Was issued 9/3/10 and still all 3 wing men missing in action.
Suggests there was some heavy duty hoovering done.

Interesting too, that a lot of wingmen with 8 days WU-time are still in progress and those with 20 days are ready. smile

Re: c-types arrived

Yes, it's all a bit of a gamble.

Do you take more A type WU's than you probably should (and risk your machine falling out of the 'reliable' class), or just take a few and know that it'll get them back in time - still within the 4 day return time? The latter then, can pick more A types up when they're available (including any 'retreads').

Another consideration, are the people who start (and then pause) A type WU's, thus preventing them from being 'server aborted'.

Personally, I think people will be more tempted to 'hoard' A-types, due to their long runtimes.

Things will be so much easier when we start seeing a more regular flow of all the three types...

Re: c-types arrived

We may wait a few more days to release some more type C work units. We are going to receive a new batch from them in the next 24 hours, but will be putting those into beta first to make sure they run on the binary enhancements explained in that thread.

That was fast. I got one 37 minutes before your post.

edit: 37->7 - Timezone on forums doesn't update automatically.
edit2: argh it was 37 prior to the post
