as in doing 2.12 times as much work in the same amount of time. Project will finish in half the time. Let's hurry up then. ![]() ![]() |

A also would like to thank the Team for the software update!
Some weeks ago a WU took ~5-6hours on my system (Vista 32bit, Q8200 2.3Ghz) After the update a WU took 2-3h with the same system. Three days ago I changed to Ubuntu 64bit to check the impact of 64bit and Linux. Now a WU takes 1.1-1.3 hours. That is 4-5 times the speed of some weeks ago just by some software changes. |

Now a WU takes 1.1-1.3 hours. The change between Ubuntu 64bit and Windows W7 64 bit is surprising. You get 2-3 hours on Vista 32 bit with Q8200 2.3 Ghz. I get 1.8 hours on W7 64bit with a 980X at 4Ghz. I have the feeling that the code runs better on the Q8200 than on the 980X. 1.1 - 1.3 sounds excellent. I would have not imagined that a simple change of OS would have such a big impact. By the way is that normal? After all the code running on the CPU is not dependent on the OS. Memory DDR3 is fast enough and should not be an issue. Is WCG sending me WU's that require more work to be tailored with a faster machine, hence the difference? ![]() |

On the last point, no but it is in future development.
----------------------------------------From what I read, it's the efficiency of the OS/libraries used. Separately, think to have observed now that whilst HFCC seems to run quicker when mixed with HCC, when HCC runs on it's own, it's about 5-7% quicker on my quad, so am having a duration run to see what mean times come out and going for blue at the same time. On first appearance it's now 2:25 hours, where before it was 2:40 with v 6.08

I would have not imagined that a simple change of OS would have such a big impact. Yeah it was also a big surprise for me after seeing the first results. I am not sure if 64bit or Linux (or both) has the big impact on the speed. I really recommend Win 32bit users to change system to 64bit Linux. I use the Boinc Ubuntu available here that you can install on a memory stick as portable Version. It does not change your Windows at all and if you want to switch back to windows just restart your computer and remove your Linux-Memorystick. Easy, fast and for free. |

I am not sure if 64bit or Linux (or both) has the big impact on the speed. I am fairly sure it is the Linux. My E5200 32 bit system is averaging around 1.8 hours. |

I have four similar Pentium 4 but with four different combinations OS, speed and HyperThreading (On or Off) crunching HCC, so I wanted to compare their stats.
It's interesting to see how different Windows and Linux handle HyperThreading.

Yesterday we had the lowest task duration average since launch of v 6.08. It was 2.55 hours or 2.14 times faster in mean. The Linux runners must be over the moon with there 3x speed from old
----------------------------------------[OT] I've tried to get the Dotch/UX 1.2 Linux install going on USB stick but after much dabbling gave up... can't get the Wifi N to work, cable is no option, and it keeps balking at "no root something" when installing to a free disk partition. Maybe try the latest Ubuntu/Debian distro and see if they've got the proper drivers.[/OT]

I used Ubuntu on a USB stick for awhile. The Wifi worked with no issues, everything auto detected for me.
