Re: Which operating system are you using?

Definitely, Linux 10.04 64 bit is faster for all sciences, but specifically HCC is twice as fast as under Windows 64 bit and more compared to windows 32 bit, which we've been more or less shouting off the roof since version 6.08 was released of that science.[/ot]

Sek when you mention Windows 64 bit, do you mean Windows Vista, Seven....or else?
Twice as fast means that in the same period of time the Linux system does twice the number of WUs or twice the number of points?
With what CPU configuration did you do the test, how many cores, with HT on or off? May be it is the windows task scheduler that has a problem.

It is incredible to have simply by changing OS the double of the speed. Windows is not in general a speed demon but here I do not understand. The main performance is made by the application. Once all the cores are loaded at 100% the only difference is due to system tasks that interfere here and there and the task scheduler, as well as memory management, disk acess etc.. But all this should make a difference in percents. Does this mean that the project application code is optimized for Linux and not for Windows.

This is an issue which is not marginal at all and that has to be adressed. There are may Windows machines in the grid and so if such a big difference is confirmed there is probably a good potential still to catch with better coding.
