Matthew Might a computer science professor at the University of Utah, writes: “Every fall, I explain to a fresh batch of Ph.D. students what a Ph.D. is. It’s hard to describe it in words. So, I use pictures.” Here it goes. Matt’s Illustrated Guide

On Cloud But it’s cloud in a box, says Ellison, who introduced the Exalogic Elastic Cloud as a hardware/software cloud solution after he explained Oracle’s definition of the cloud as a complete platform, one “that can run all of your applications.” To see if you agree with Oracle’s definition of the cloud Larry Dignan at ZDNet thinks Exalogic sounds “kind of like, well, a mainframe?” — check out the seven-and-a-half-minute Video on Oracle’s website if you don’t feel like shelling out for “OpenWorld On Demand.” To be fair, it’s hard to make servers and cloud computing sexy, but watching the video does make one wonder why Ellison has been so often described as flamboyant.” But oh wait, here’s Ellison being passionate and animated, in a video of a talk he gave at the Churchill Club in San Jose in 2009, during which he mercilessly poked fun at the … cloud

A ''Mere'' 2.5 PetaFlops device China takes the lead in world's fastest c...with Linux That's like 1.7 billion points per day or so (dog year standard) ;D While that is impressive I believe there are ones faster that you never hear about. In 1988, Cray Research introduced the Cray Y-MP®, the world's first supercomputer to sustain over 1 gigaflop on many applications. Multiple 333 MFLOPS processors powered the system to a record sustained speed of 2.3 gigaflops. I'm guessing that 22 years later would bring us past 2.5 petaflops. JMHO. There is a history of articles about the evolution of computers here for your reading pleasure.
In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.
