Re: Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mother's Day! I took my wife and her mom out to lunch.

I found this to be interesting from gb's Wiki link: "By the third decade of the twentieth century, the custom of keeping Mothering Sunday had tended to lapse in Europe. It was revived through the influence of American and Canadian soldiers serving abroad during World War II, who celebrated Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May. People from Ireland and the UK started celebrating Mother's Day again, but on the same day Mothering Sunday had been celebrated before it fell into disuse, the fourth Sunday in Lent."

In the northern hemisphere anyway, it's a bit nicer outside on the second Sunday of May than the middle of March.

True - although along with the traditional Simnel cake we usually have one of the very first flowers in spring (daffodils) to give as well. A simple, yet very colourful way of letting our mothers know how much we love them rose

A Mother's Love
- Helen Steiner Rice

A Mother's love is something
that no on can explain,
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away . . .
It is patient and forgiving
when all others are forsaking,
And it never fails or falters
even though the heart is breaking . . .
It believes beyond believing
when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty
of the rarest, brightest gems . . .
It is far beyond defining,
it defies all explanation,
And it still remains a secret
like the mysteries of creation . . .
A many splendoured miracle
man cannot understand
And another wondrous evidence
of God's tender guiding hand.

Re: Happy Mothers Day

......So don't spoil it. shame on you......

I didn't spoil it, it was some other person who attacked mine and gb's post. I was only pointing out that we had our mothers day weeks ago, but he had to poke his nose in and start an argument.

Just what we need on Mothers Day, a pi$$ing contest.
