I think that this cannot be the ultimate truth, because - when IBM brings out a product somewhere in the world, I doubt that the German handbook needs to be approved by IBM Germany - Why IBM Germany, why not e.g. IBM Austria? I really agree with Baschtli01 that WCG should consider German as one of their official languages, along with Frensh, Spanish and 2 other languages I cannot even guess what they are without looking into the web page source code. Now doing exactly that, I find 5 languages: en_US fr_CA ja_JP es_MX zh_CN So it looks like WCG is not even interested in any European visitor of the web page? ![]() Regards, Martin ![]() |

JP,
sorry for not translating my posting. I answered to the following posting: Hello Marcel, I am sorry, but I called IBM Germany on the phone. They are simply not interested in worldcommunitygrid. WCG is a project of the IBM Corporation. I understand that IBM Germany as a business unit with own business targets and responsibilitites will not be excited to provide resources for the translation of the WCG website without any cost recovery. This may be the reason for Martin.Schnellingers statement "They are simply not interested in worldcommunitygrid." Greetings |

Most people in Europe speak English sufficiently well to order some food or ask for their way or to serve some food or to direct someone. Someone leaving school at an age of 16 however (and this is what some 57% (wikipedia) are doing) I would say has no chance whatsoever to understand even the WCG home page. And also I am not so very confident that the majority of the others would understand basic words like "donate", "participate" or "join". More important may be to attract those aged 14+ while still at school and lower their entry a bit.
What would rather dramatically help IMHO is not to provide complete translations but some popups with synonyms and/or translations of the words used. This way you'd spare the need to update many translations in paralllel, IBM can show off with some JavaScript skills, and it is not so very difficult at all, uh, sorry, no, this is enormously difficult, please Big Blue, impress us. |

It's perhaps a little bit lazy or bullheaded but it's a fact Greez Marcel |
