Or sapphire #6?
Points 15,699,411 Results 15,535 Years 12:034:04:53:27 And me, I don't worry about the hard drives too much. My experience is that failures will usually occur as DOAs or within first week of use, and then....well, I wouldn't want to be paid at intervals dictated by hard drive failures. Properly cooled and isolated from physical shocks, they're pretty dependable. If you're worried about it, run WCG on a mirror set (RAID 1). Putting the BOINC data directory on a mirror set will provide you with a "hot" back-up and also spread reads out across two drives. (My opinions are my own - but they are derived from experience ranging from hundreds of PCs to babysitting Vaxen that were being hit hundreds of people 24/7 - and which only suffered one hard drive failure across several Vax generations, IIRC. Now a laptop? They'll have hard drive failures at a much higher rate as they take many more physical shocks and their cooling system is less robust - and more likely to intake interesting thermal insulators like cheese doodle dust. ![]() |

I just got my 7th blue badge. lolll....I've been rather narrowly focused on CEP2, but with the thought that bringing about a massive reduction in the amount of toxins introduced into the ecology - particularly into the air - will be helping the work of WCG cancer projects from the other end: By reducing *cause.![]() Just no additional badges for it. (*And before somebody lambastes me and insists that introducing tonnes of combustion byproducts replete with both naturally occurring and artificially introduced chemical compounds into the atmosphere has nothing to do with cancer incidence, let us just agree to consider that my "personal" opinion and let it go at that, eh? Humor me, as it were...) |

Just no additional badges for it. I did not see that you completed 12 years for this project (you should have written it in the body of your message). Congratulations ! ![]() Don't worry about badges, they are here just for fun. At the beginning there were no badges, then badges without colors, then bronze, silver and gold badges only, and now we have badges till 2 years. One day probably there will be additional badges for very long time crunching. ![]() |

Don't worry about badges, they are here just for fun. lolll...I don't worry about the badges - in fact, aside from the goal itself I get most of whatever pleasure I derive from this effort from managing to keep my boxes crunching without serious disruption through a Microsoft "patch Tuesday" - is like a technological victory (well, usually) once a month. That, and from the fact that when it gets cold enough out I am able to heat this floor with just my crunching boxes with external air temperatures down to -3C/26F (hasn't got colder than that yet). That really tickles me; is way better than when the external air temp crosses 7C/45F and I have to burn more juice with A/C.![]() |

A minor accomplishment compared to long-term people here: Gold lolll...the accomplishment may be minor, but your contribution? It might well turn out to be the most significant ever made in human history.Given the importance of energy to humanity, I don't think that is any exaggeration at all. |
