Thanks, Graham. I think we see the slide in points almost from the beginning of the month except for a burst around the 13th when a few of our new members with more than one machine joined. The drop on the 25th had to be Compudude turning his render farm back to real production.

Congratulations Graham on amassing a fine 1/4 Million points Well done that man. The first of the battling Brits, who will be next?
----------------------------------------Dave/Graham we should be celebrating the fact that even with CompuDude's Render Farm currently producing some stunning graphics our output for yesterday was clocked at 225,729 and over a year of run time in a single day. Almost any team on the grid would love to see a daily points score like that, even IBM Corp ![]() We are neck and neck with TW at the moment and when CD returns....... Welcome to concorde which is a great Nick meaning togetherness, peace and harmony. I also hope also to see your supersonic performance ![]() Happy Crunching concorde and to the rest of the gang - You are doing a grand job. Let's crunch some more proteins today in the hope of finding new cures and treatments for some of Mankind's worst ailments. All the best Dave ![]() |

Looking at our stats, I think we are seeing more than Compudude's render farm missing. I wonder if some of it might be that schools are out for the summer and labs aren't up. This really seems to be a factor (or machines becoming too hot ![]() I'm checking my "points generated yesterday" rank on a regular basis -- in Germany and against the USA. In Germany my lab's performance of a little over 6000 points per day was in the region of position 2-4 but yesterday I went first place ... while in the US comparison I would have been around position 35-40 for the last few days but jumped up to 25th place yesterday! This means that quite a few of those big crunchers switched off (or were switched off...) recently. This way the missing render farm of CompuDude might be compensated somewhat by the summer problems of the other teams. I will be off for a week as well but I won't switch off any machine here :-) When I get back (relaxed, I hope) I will add some more machines as I have to set up a couple of virtual Windows machines using VMware under Linux. I also hope to get my new desktop workstation next month -- a HP XW6200 with two XEON 2.8GHz and 2GB of RAM. If I would run it unter Windows, I doubt the WCG client would make use of the multiple CPUs (two real CPUs and two virtual through hyperthreading). But even if it would, it wouldn't accumulate as many points as it should as the point reward is limited. Limited to twice the reward the WCG comparison machine would get for the same runtime. So even if a machine runs the WCG client 10 times as fast as the comparison device, it only gets twice the points. But I will run Linux on that machine anyway and will overcome the limitation by running two virtual windows machines on that workstation -- each using one processor and thus running at maximum speed AND at the same time receiving maximum points. I will also make some benchmarks running 4 instances (have to limit the RAM of each to 384MB, though) as each hyperthreading channel can run a VMware machine and a paper on this topic suggests that there is quite some benefit in overall throughput. Will keep you updated once I have the baby talking... Best wishes, Stefan (Esteban69). |

Stefan --
I hope that you enjoy your holidays. Your new desktop workstation should really crank out the points for you -- I am jealous! |

I hope that you enjoy your holidays. Thanks -- I really need them. My eyes become rectangular and my belly grows. Gotta do some long walks... Your new desktop workstation should really crank out the points for you -- I am jealous! I'm looking forward to this machine ![]() ![]() Best regards, Stefan. |

WAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
![]() Just found this rather new posting http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=3206 where December is estimated as the completion of the proteome_folding project... While I am glad that the valuable data are avalailable to scientists soon, I wonder if there is a successor project ready fast enough to seamlessly start after we hit the 100% -- the clients will starve, the lazy computers will get fat and the CPUs produce less heat, IN DECEMBER!!! Someone tell me that new projects are in the pipeline... PLEASE ![]() Best regards, Stefan. |

I wonder if there is a successor project ready fast enough to seamlessly start after we hit the 100% Stefan -- While they haven't been real specific about what the projects are, the WCG staff have indicated to us (the Community Admins) that there are a couple very good candidate projects going through the review process right now and that they will finish the process in time to keep our processors busy. Before new projects roll out, I think we can be pretty certain that Linux software for the WCG will become available. Sorry I can't give dates or more information on what the new projects will be, but rest assured that you will be able to keep your processors busy. Best regards, |

Sorry If I've caused confusion I think that makes it about 6 o'clock on the east coast and still the middle of Friday on the west and not too late across Europe and Africa
