Never mind the small change I've made to the Jr/Sr icons. It was take two of the experiment. It will change again. ![]() Do I see Guru's now?? Well spotted ![]() This time around I tried the following rules: - Junior: Member for less than 1 year - Senior: Member for more than 6 years - Guru: Member for more than 6 years AND owns at least 90% of all badges. As of now there are 5 Guru's. This is about right I believe, for this should be a very exclusive club, since a Guru is "one who is regarded as having great knowledge, wisdom, and authority" (quoted from Wikipedia). By the way, I liked your idea for using % of WCG lifetime. But playing with the numbers a little bit I believe a drawback of this system is this: Suppose I use 15% of lifetime for Sr. For now this means 7 years * 85% = 6 years to become a Sr. Seems fair enough. But let's say WCG exists 20 years (let's all hope it will). Than it would take 17 years of crunching to become a Sr. That's a bit unrealistic I believe. On the other hand a drawback of the rule I applied now is that in the long run the number of Sr members may get out of hand. Anyway, I think I'll keep the Guru's, and use the 'little blue man' for indicators instead of the extra icon that I'm using now. This way there will also be an icon for those John Doe's (like most of us) caught in between Jr and Sr. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 3 times, last edit by SNURK at Jul 14, 2011 6:29:12 AM] |

Could you check your coding. I seem to have been a Sr, now I'm not.

Hi SNURK,
----------------------------------------Looked in the signature ranking list what a Guru was looking like as I was drawing blank... the Sr. disappeared in the sig. Guess it's off the chart :O) --//-- edit: OK see the 'AND' now... will get the bling on July 25. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 14, 2011 6:46:46 AM] |

As of my first try of defining a Sr you were a Sr (joined in the first year after WCG started). As you can see in the above post I changed the rule. To be a Sr you now have to be a member for 6+ years. Don't worry, in september 2011 you will regain your Sr title. ![]() |

Hi SNURK,
Just an observation on the JR/Sr/Guru specs. Say a member has been around for 3 years, has 12 badges of the 17 currently available, since they never had the chance to get the first 5 badges which projects were finished before the member started. Lets say there are, on average 3 new projects per year looking forward and lets say this user is doing about 20 years per year. Since the member has missed 5 badges (17-12), in order to reach 90% of all badges they will have to earn the next 33 badges to get to 45 of 50 badges or 90%. At 3 badges per year, this will take about 11 years at which time this person will have been a member for 14 years, have 45 badges, might have crunched 400,000 WU and have 280 years in total. If we look at MrKermit's stats, the totals can be estimated at 13 years member, 45 badges, 18,000,000 WU and 6500 years in total. By contrast, you have a user currently defined as a Guru and based on the statistics of their 6.5 years will have the following stats at the end of their 17.5 years of being a member: 50 badges, crunched 36,000 WU and 38 years crunched in total. Any member who does reach the GU status could safely maintain it with only one single core computer, while a user with 50 Quads that missed the first 3 badges will never be a GU until WCG starts 13 more projects. Just an observation, as I truly believe this is yours to do what you want with it. To repeat myself, you have done a really great thing for the community. Thanks. |

You might consider a "GURU" to be one ("SR") who has all of the currently available badges at the highest level (or at 2 Yrs, if there are plans to increase the levels). Missing "closed" project badges should not be an impediment to "GURU" status. IMHO (but as said earlier, your sig, your rules!)
