SNURK, don't let us guess, what's the meaning of the bronze, silver and golden little man. And a little man you do not see anymore, because he's hidden by a big golden crown

Hi SNURK, Just an observation on the JR/Sr/Guru specs. Say a member has been around for 3 years, has 12 badges of the 17 currently available, since they never had the chance to get the first 5 badges which projects were finished before the member started. Lets say there are, on average 3 new projects per year looking forward and lets say this user is doing about 20 years per year. Since the member has missed 5 badges (17-12), in order to reach 90% of all badges they will have to earn the next 33 badges to get to 45 of 50 badges or 90%. At 3 badges per year, this will take about 11 years at which time this person will have been a member for 14 years, have 45 badges, might have crunched 400,000 WU and have 280 years in total. If we look at MrKermit's stats, the totals can be estimated at 13 years member, 45 badges, 18,000,000 WU and 6500 years in total. By contrast, you have a user currently defined as a Guru and based on the statistics of their 6.5 years will have the following stats at the end of their 17.5 years of being a member: 50 badges, crunched 36,000 WU and 38 years crunched in total. Any member who does reach the GU status could safely maintain it with only one single core computer, while a user with 50 Quads that missed the first 3 badges will never be a GU until WCG starts 13 more projects. Just an observation, as I truly believe this is yours to do what you want with it. To repeat myself, you have done a really great thing for the community. Thanks. Oh, can you buy a single core PC today? And the user with 50 Quads should have gotten his company to start on WCG sooner. ![]() @MrKermit's stats WOW, that is some NEW math! No matter how many WUs you are doing, you can't create badges out of thin air! |

IMO, Projects no longer available should be moved to "Beta" status -- run times count for total, but project no longer used for calculating "Guru", "Run time/project", etc. This would allow newcomers to participate without a huge handicap.
----------------------------------------Just my 2 cents worth.

Pity you did not get to do 10 more hours on ACAH, being senior amongst the seniors ;>) --//-- PS: 9 nights to sleep till guru status :P edit: Wonder when uplinger is going to apply for one of these might fine sigs Sekerob, I only need 1.7 hours of ACAH, 18 hours of CEP1 and a few months to reach Guru. I missed HCMD1 by 41.5 days for the full compliment. I don't feel too bad about that one, but the other two are really thorns under my saddle. At least I have something to look forward to, say, another five or six projects. Don't let them disuade you Snurk, I think it's admirable to have a goal. It will just take some time. Edit: After doing some math, I see I'll get guru status as soon as we reach 30 total badges. Edit again: I don't suppose you can see work for a project under badge level Snurk? Maybe you could put a grey mark for work completed on a project without having yet earned a badge. Might not be possible, or maybe I just need to know your PayPal account... ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 [Edit 2 times, last edit by KWSN - A Shrubbery at Jul 16, 2011 2:30:55 AM] |

Just my 2 cents worth. I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. If it were easy to attain then it wouldn't be special. I don't see myself getting to guru status anytime soon, if ever. It's our own fault for not finding this very worthwhile project years earlier. As with all things, those who get in early reap the rewards. Us newbies can just work our tails off to try and catch up :) ![]() |

KWSN - A Shrubbery, I just got there 52 seconds before you. As to seeing a crown, you now won't have to look far

Fast typers have been the bane of my existence. But it does make it much easier to find a crown.

Snurk,
----------------------------------------I think you got it right, now. Great job! There was a point made that for more recent or future joiners it would be virtually impossible to gain Guru status. The point is mathematically correct and valid. Then again, your original "Sr" status was limited to those who joined WCG in the very first year. So if I see Guru as the successor in spirit to that original Senior, then I think your new definition of "6y+90%B" is pretty much as good as it gets. I like it. Keep it that way. Thanks for all you're doing! ![]() Looking forward to see what will happen to my little "Silverado" as end of August approaches! ![]() |
