Re: Clean Energy Project Phase 2 Scheduling change

One word: <bwdown>.

I've run many hundreds (681) of CEP2 in all possible science mixes and except during the launch time in June never saw this again.

If you crunch outside of WCG their file sizes and project download speed can cause the value to go to low too, but anyway, it's academic if you choose to override the control [if approved and implemented]. If then seen poor performance running 2-3-4 and more concurrently, we all know and have no base to complain on this OPT-IN research.

Re: Clean Energy Project Phase 2 Scheduling change

While the think tank's 2 is more laudable than 1, keeps the average cruncher happy and still deals with the mass of quad core business systems, it'€™s still a ludicrously small number for 12thread+ systems; especially those purposely built to crunch CEP2 by the more enthusiastic cruncher, so I would still expect an override option.

Re: Clean Energy Project Phase 2 Scheduling change

I am against it too. I think this new rule makes a sence only for error results returning hosts. My i7 crunches CEP2 24 hours a day and I haven't had an error for 30 days...

I am also "unhappy" about this change. I have dedicated all of my Ubuntu machineds to CEP2. I7 950 (8), I7 920 (8), 2 1090t (12), and an Amd X4 955 (4). A total of 32 CPUs on 5 hosts. I have donated 5 years and 296 days to this project as these 5 machines run 24x7 and I have never noticed a problem. Now with this change, I will only be able to run 5 tasks instead of 32, that does not make sense. This will significantly impact my ability to contribute to this project. Since I have donated over 20 years to all of the other active projects, with the exception of CWP, and DDDT2 , and I cant get any DDDT2, it looks like all of my contribution will go to CWP until it gets to 20 years like the others.

I have to expect you are seeing a significant reduction in contributions to this project now that you made this change.

As I stated above, prior to the change, I was processing 32 tasks of CEP2 24x7 on 5 dedicated, "fast" machines. I now have worked through all of the CEP2 WUs I had in Cache, and I am not curretly processing a single CEP2 WU on any of my 5 machines. Due to my 2 day cache size, I will probably drop from processing close to 100 results per day of CEP2 to 5 WUs every 2 days.

CWP is now enjoying additioanl processing power, as all 5 machines now have 32 active CWP WUs, with 5 CEP2 in Cache waiting to be processed.

Re: Clean Energy Project Phase 2 Scheduling change

et al,

Can we please wait on what comes.

skgiven,

Do you know it was not set ad-interim as N / cores equals 2... an octo getting 4?

Can mclaver please test for his I7 to see if an exclusive CEP2 setting fetches more than 2.

thanks

Yes, that's the logical consequence. Drop for Sunday from 6 CPU years on Friday and 5 years on Saturday to 3.5 years.

Re: Clean Energy Project Phase 2 Scheduling change

My only hope is that CEP2 (on W7 64 bit) does not behave like C4CW or HPF2 were for a majority of my machines I get tons of errors, and only a few run flawlessly. Sure having at least a few running well is enough to participate but......... biggrin

Re: Clean Energy Project Phase 2 Scheduling change

Is this the thread to watch for an announcement on changes to the number of CEP units we can process concurrently? I see above that it was noted that the limit appears to have increased from 1 to 2, and yet from what I can see there's no official notification.

Re: Clean Energy Project Phase 2 Scheduling change

I received 2 in my quad core box. still have 5 in my octo box but thats from prior to the change. Getting at least half per number of cores is allot better than 1 per box.
