Re: HCC with GPU

what is the best gpu for this project. i have a gtx 580, and it takes 3:10 to complete one WU. As far as i read the post, it seems that it is 7970, right? Then, can we say that ATI card are better than Nvidia cards for this project.

ATI is better because they have much better driver support for OpenCL than Nvidia. I've heard rumors that the next generation of Nvidia drivers (310) will offer better OpenCL support so we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: HCC with GPU

My 7750 does a WU in around 4mins so I guess AMD HW is better suited to GPU HCC, at least at this moment.

Re: HCC with GPU

Ok, GTX690 or 7970 should be really fast cards but they are also quite expensive. So my question is, what would be the best card regarding workunits/(price*time) ratio?

Re: HCC with GPU

Been looking at them too but a bit out of my price range. Past posts indicate 7800 series is pretty good. My 6950 does them under 4 minutes and can be had for around 250. Seems the 7000 series is a bit more energy efficient. If you can wait, the 8000 series comes out end of year or early next.

... and for which in the series will produce valid WU results.

AFAIK, everything above the 6800 series is making valid results. Heck, my 5670 is churning them out without issue but around 5 minutes per wu. If I crank up my 6950 in CCC, can get the times down to around 3 min, otherwise close to 4 to complete.

I am glad you asked. Get a Radeon HD 7770
