I am curious as to if anyone knows why I haven't received any tasks for The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 project. It's not that I've been processing for a long time, but it seems to me I get a lot of "Computing for Clean Water" and "Help Conquer Cancer" tasks (my other two projects where I have chosen to participate).
----------------------------------------I know this project has "special requirements" but both of my machines meet them. So that shouldn't be it. What could be the hold up? Anyone have any idea? ![]() Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world! - Albert Einstein ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by CandymanWCG at Jan 11, 2011 8:29:37 AM] |

Candyman,
If you visit the messages tab in the client, there may be some lines on effective bandwidth as BOINC sees it. Currently the measured sustained download bandwidth is 96KBps. It used to be 128KBps until a few weeks ago (no announcement I recollect). You can override that limitation further down in the device profile ''custom'' section, but that is a member election because the uploads resulting from CEP2 are big and for some have clogged their internet connection... which is why CEP2 is an opt-in in the first place. Plz post your messages and confirm the respective device profile associated with the client has CEP2 selected. --//-- |

OK, I've just checked my laptop configuration and, apparently, I don't qualify because I only have "1/10/2011 9:04:11 AM max memory usage when active: 1006.51MB" available memory for BOINC out of the total of "1/10/2011 9:04:11 AM Memory: 1.97 GB physical, 3.82 GB virtual". Although I do qualify for it when processing on idle "1/10/2011 9:04:11 AM max memory usage when idle: 1509.76MB". The allocated space for BOINC tasks is 10GB, that's also not the problem.
----------------------------------------Anyway, although I can't show you the messages for my PC (the other machine), I can tell you straight up that I have 4GB of DDRAM3 memory, hence at least 2GB of available memory for BOINC tasks. I have also allocated 10GB of disk space for it. So that's a double check if you like. I couldn't find any information on my bandwidth in the BOINC messages, but I have tested it on speedtest.net and it varies from 5Mb/s up to 10Mb/s - that's my work location - and at home (where I have my PC) it's between 40 and 50Mb/s. Any other ideas on what's keeping me from running CEP? Thanks! PS: I run the default profile on both machines, but just because I thought the advanced options for configuring a customized profile were a bit too much for me. If you can give me some suggestions, I would love to apply them. Knowledge is limited. You can play with the percentages of "while using" "while idle". Set the "while using" to 60%. You can do that in the BOINC Manager GUI preferences or in the "Default" device profile page you use and hitting the "custom" radio button and finding the "Use at most xxx % When Computer is in use" option. Then hit Update in the client to force the profile change transmission to the client.
----------------------------------------Note that entering local prefs overrides all web device profile settings until cleared. edit: By design the Default and Power Saving profiles are rather restrictive so as not to impeed the user in any way, real or imaginary, which BOINC for 99.9% of the time does not do anyway, even if set to Maximum Output. You're right. I think I might have changed the memory usage percentage myself in the beginning, when I was checking the options. Now I've changed it to 60 percent and I read "1/10/2011 3:03:32 PM max memory usage when active: 1207.81MB" after having restarted the BOINC manager (I prefer to use the advanced view of the manager for changes, but, like I said, I wouldn't mind changing the options in Device Manager and having defined profiles for "Work" and for "Home", but I just think I'll mess something up if I do that.
----------------------------------------Anyway, it still doesn't really answer the question why I haven't received any CEP2 work for my home PC. Any thoughts? Knowledge is limited. Candyman, you self answered the question with the snip from the log:
"1/10/2011 9:04:11 AM max memory usage when active: 1006.51MB" available memory for BOINC out of the total of ???? If work is requested and CEP2 is queued in the feeder, there would have been a line to tell it's not enough and requiring 1024MB as per the system requirement page. Now that your cache is full, of course no work is backfilled, so wait or increase the cache (additional buffer) so work requests are scheduled. You could temporarily change the research selection so only CEP2 is requested to test if the blockage/condition has been removed. --//-- |

Maybe I haven't been very clear in my question: I have two machines - a laptop and a PC. The laptop was the one that had only 1006MB of RAM available and even that was only when user is active, but almost 1,5GB of RAM available when idle.
----------------------------------------Regardless, I was now asking you (or anyone else browsing through here), how come I didn't get any CEP2 work on my PC which has the following configuration: OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Processor: Dual core AMD Phenom II Black edition 3.1GHz Memory: 4GB DDRAM3 Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9600GT Silent 512 GDDRM3 - GPU available in BOINC - no tasks received yet Hard disks: WD Raptor 36GB @ 10k rpm - for OS WD Caviar second edition 500GB WD 120GB - where BOINC data folder also resides BOINC has 10 GB of allocated space and the default profile active. Internet bandwidth, as stated before close or equal to 50Mb/s (both for upload/download). Since I have installed BOINC on my PC, I have returned about 10 results (not all validated yet) and I continue to only get C4CW or HCC tasks. Any particular reason why? Knowledge is limited. Candyman,
You wrote: "Anyway, although I can't show you the messages for my PC (the other machine)... ," Without the problem device's messages there's really much guessing, so please write back when you do have access, then copy paste the full log after a boot and at least a work request, so we can see what the client is doing. cheers |

Can some admin please move this post under the Clean Energy Project Phase 2 section?

Until the thread gets moved (hoping that it will get moved), I will continue posting here. So, mighty SekeRob, here are the stats for my PC:
